Hi, I have a Batmobile in Silver. I would Appreciate any information on these Cars that is available. Their History is fairly grey. How many were really Produced and in which Colours?? etc etc. I also would welcome info on George Harrisons (The Beatles) 3.0 CSA. Would any Photos exist of The Star with His Car. Many Thanks, John.

George's CSA was registered LYR 1K (lyric) and is
Pastel blue. It surfaced about 5-6 years ago but
hasn't been seen since.

I think Paul McCartney had one as well and John
Lennon also had one in the States as well as an Alfa
Romeo 2600 Sprint which in the seventies was an
old car.

The history of the Batmobiles is now very well documented. The development of the different types of CSL is closely linked to the European Touring Car Championship between 1971 and 1974. From May 1971 a series of 169 lightweight CSL's were built with CS chassisnumbers, random numbers within the range of 2210001 – 2214006, LHD only, with alloy panels on doorskins, bonnet, boot, 2,985 cc, 180 bhp carburettor engine. It was a half-hearted attempt because 1000 cars were needed to homologate the design. That happened in 1972, 500 RHD (chassis nos 2285001 - 2285500) and 500 LHD cars (2275001 - 2275500) were built with 3,003 cc engine with fuel injection, lightweight spec, nearly all though with some luxury items, the so-called "town-kit", because the car was incredibly expensive. So in 1973 the racing cars were allowed the lightweight panels and an engine overbore to 3,3 litre. Since the weight reduction alone was not enough, in July of that year the famous spoiler- and wing kit was developed. This was classed as an "evolutionary" change, so only 100 cars were needed with this design. 71 unsold cars, 2275430 - 2275500 were converted plus 39 new ones were built with the 3,153 cc engine plus kit. These are the first 110 batmobiles, all LHD. In 1974 a further series of 57 LHD cars (chassis nos 4355001 - 4355057) had adjustable seats and 3-legged rear wing, making the total number of Batmobiles 167.
