This months copy of BMW Car just arrived with a "Drive the Ads" article on an M635 for sale at Munich Legends.
It's in Misano Red. Shame I don't have the spare £13k kicking around (or the space) to have a matched pair! They also have an M635 with 25k miles for £23k that used to belong to King Hussain of Jordan. |

Hmmm........
The King Hussain car isn't that good. It's been resprayed (badly) and the interior trim has been removed and replaced - why?? It's one of a pair of cars that were stood for ages and were quite badly affected by sunlight apparently. Sorry, but 25 grand buys a very nice 308GTB, not some ropey old 6 Series. |

That would account for the respray I suppose. Some US cars suffered the same.
Maybe it does buy a 308GTB but there's enough trouble & misery in the world without going looking for more! They were over priced, over rated & over complicated when they were new, add in 2 decades & it doesn't get any better. |

Perhaps, but they sold an M635 with 14k miles for £25k so they'll probably find a wealthy solicitor or accountant to buy it as a tax write off. As they say in the advert, same price as a new diesel Mondeo . . . ML told me most of their customers buy & run their cars through the business so cost isn't an issue like it is to the rest of us. |

The 308GTB was cheaper when new than the
M635CSi. And they probably rusted less! In it';s day it was the best junior supercar about as well as being a lovely thing to look at. At the end of the day the M635CSi, as nice as it is, isn't special enough for £25'000. Not to me anyway. But for £12'000 the red one does look very nice although I'd refit the BBS rims. Never liked Schnitzer wheels much! |

Well I agree the 308 was a pretty car - shame about the Magnum image (tho' believe that was a 328).
Best junior supercar? Hmmm - might get some argument from 911 fans. Apart from the 246 Dino I was never taken with the Prancing Pit Pony's mid engine efforts. Much prefered the V12 front engined cars. Agree £23000 is steep but take it in context. Mint restored Stags are advertised at £15000, very good W107 SL's are £20k (depending on model) & decent Pagoda SL's are £25 - £30k. On the positive side, with diligent servicing it should have 200k miles left in the engine. Better bet than a new Mondeo . . . Agree about the Schnitzers - totally wrong for a Six. And £13k is a more realistic price. |

911? That's just a souped up Beetle! My old man
has one (a 993) and I think they're bloody horrible thing. I drove a few of the earlier torsion bar types (911SC etc) when they weren't quite so old and they're really, really nasty. They're just so unbalanced and skittish - over a decent bit of road you'd go faster in a diesel Clio! In my view the best Porsches were the later 928S2 manual and the 944 Turbo. Both really well sorted cars and they're quite cheap now - as long as you get a good one with FSH. Best Ferrari ever has to be the original Boxer, the 365GT with the big carbs on the flat 12 motor but in the flesh, the latest 612 Scaglialetti is a stunning car. So is the 550 maranello, but only in black. I dunno about the Magnum image these days. I think it's now a positive rather than a negative if only because modern Ferraris have such a dreadful image with Footballer connotations. I wouldn't be seen dead in an F360 or an Enzo. Ditto the new Six Series. There's something horribly naff and 'new money' about them. Give me a Zinnober red chrome bumper M6 on polished BBS splits. Now THAT'S classy! |

Image is a funny thing. I ignored E30's (& Mk2 Golfs) because of
their yuppy image. Shame, because I now think I missed out - or I would
have done if I could have afforded a new 3-series!
Agree with the f*@tballer image. Coasting won't be pleased as he's just splashed out on a new 645 conv. If I had that kind of money I'd be getting an 8-series & a mint E9 3.0Csi to keep my Six company. 911's skittish? Never driven one but don't doubt you as I have driven a Beetle. Challenging & character building! Prefer older 911's to 993's although again, I suspect I've missed the boat on those too. My father in law is a Porsche fan & is on his umpteenth 944. Boxer? Nah! give me a 365GTB4 Daytona & a pair of leather driving gloves. Or an '87 Aston V8 Vantage, or a . . . I do prefer older cars as they seem to have much more character than new ones. |

Not sure about the Daytona, they're soooo much
money whereas the best Boxer in the world is still around 50 grand (645 Conv money) and £35'000 for some very, very nice examples. A clean one with history sold at auction for £25'000 but an auction is the very last place to buy an old Ferrari! The Boxer is just a work of art. So is the Maserati Bora and this month's classic and sportscar has an article on a stunning red one. As for the new 6 Series; a Maserati 4200GT isn't much more money and they are so gorgeous. They seem to be quite reliable in everyday use as well, which is a first. Interesting what you say about Astons. My fave is the early four headlamp DBS V8 (1971 ish) but I love those seventies and eighties V8's - everything up until that horrible Virage thing (1989). I watched Heartbeat the other day and the opening scene was of a six cylinder DBS on a G plate being wrecked, bouncing it off stone walls and then smashing it into a mint Triumph 2000. Why did they do that? I'd like to find the moron who did all that and 'have a word'. As for 911's - well, a white 1977 Martini Turbo with sorted suspension would be okay. |

I've had a thing for Astons ever since I saw Goldfinger (on first release!)
I used to watch The Persuaders just for the Aston (actually a 6 cylinder dressed up to look like the impending V8) & the 246 Dino. Met a guy at the Dilston Car Show the other monthe with a 6 cylinder Vantage auto. Turned out he lived about 1/4 mile away from me! It was pretty straight but needed some serious tlc inside & out + it had the dreaded steel/alloy corrosion on the scuttle. Being a bit of a perfectionist, I'd want a better example which = more money than I have! |

DBS's needing work are 'only' worth about £7-8000.
As long as the engine and the sills are okay, it'd probably be okay. But not an Auto. To be honest, you'd be better off with the V8, at least it's got some performance. But the red one looks nice if underwheeled! Look at old Astons and you'll realise what great value a really good M6 is! I reckon you can buy a nice one with new wings and the chain done for £10'000. Can't go wrong really. |
