I have the chance to buy a 1988 325ix. I have never heard of this model. Does anyone know where I can find some information about it, or have any personal knowledge of this car? Thanks in anticipation, Peter Hall, Kingston, Surrey. |

The general chat about this car was that compared to its RWD cousin, it was thirstier, slower and more complex - a poor attempt by BMW to take on Audi on it's 4WD saloon car part of the market. Maybe try some German sites as I believe they were marginally more common there than here..? |

He, come on, the 325ix is a very nice car (although thirstier than a normal E30, that's true), but it's road handling is superb and the car is a joy to ride. And I can tell, since I have two (tourings that is). Apart from the normal E30 weaknesses the iX is quite reliable, the 4wd system is very robust. Careful with automatic EH gearboxes though, they're weak. For more info, check my site. Jeroen

I agree with Jeroen the 325IX is a good car, but the only thing I'm not keen on is the bodykit it was supplied with. An excellent Q car, a BMW with 4 WD, excellent, how much and where is it? Is it a Touring or a saloon, failry rare in the UK unless it was a personal import as they weren't sold over here. |

Hi M3AG, What is a Q car? One of my 325iX tourings is for sale and I wouldn't mind bringing it to England, since I just bought a car there and probably will buy another one (picking both up some where end of next week). It's automatic and has a/c, drove 160.000 kms genuinely and is in a very good condition except for a small accident damage in the front and some scrathes. I only sell it, because I am moving to Cyprus and I am not allowed to import LHD cars there (that's why I now buy RHD cars in England!) A pic (I have more) and some stories can be found at www.bmw745i.com. If you're interested, I can give you more details about it (or just mail me at jeromach@xs4all.nl) Regards, Jeroen

Hi Peter, I brought my girlfriends mothers 86 325ix over from Germany in May to stay with me in Scotland. It has done nearly 200,ooo kms and runs on and on. It is classed as silvergrey metallic but looks brown metallic, is a 4 door and is immaculate, rust free and the only thing that is wrong is it drips (doesn't burn) a bit of oil... new driveshaft seal required. The car has a 67 front 33 rear split and i was told this era of 325ix, the first era was built as a taster in Germany to see how they would sell and therefore i think my one in the uk could be unique. The beast doesn't do anything in 1st and 2nd but flies in 3, 4 and 5th. I would recommend the car, it is a great feat of engineering. Any other queries just give me a call on 01224 620520. Eric |

Hey Webdunk
You're right in that I meant the second Q car explanation. Jeroen, when are you moving back to Cyprus? and how much do you think you'll be asking for the 325ix |

The term Q comes from the the code used for a type of ship used to fool German U boats they were harmless. In fact the ships had a full navy crew and as many guns as a small battleship, Having the looks of a harmless tramp steamer, the u boats would surface to use its deck gun. Then it would find out that their prey had teeth. Q in todays use means something that is not what it looks like, ie a Q car maybe a rusting escort with a F1 engine etc, looks rubish but goes like a dream. hope this helps |
