Sossy my mistake, I have 235/40/17 to the front & 255/35/17 on the rear which are as close as you can get to the circumference of what was on.

By the way I have four as new standard wheels with brand new Michelin metrics if anyone is interested.

On a seperate note I have found a supplier in Germany who has plenty of BMW part mudflaps.

The rears are too low a profile, they should be 255/40.

40 profile on a 235 is OK but 40 on a 255 is larger than what was on.

You want the rolling circumference to be as close as possible to the original which was 1982.6mm (240/45x415 TRX).

A 255/40 rolling circumference is 1997.7 so is + 0.8% compared to the original.

A 255/35 rolling circumference is 1917.6 so is - 3.4% compared to the original.

These are "ideal world" sizes as tyres from different manufactures can differ slightly.

Were your TRX's the older 390 diameter?

Dave, I think your getting mixed up mate Take it from your little brother your car has 235/45/17 front and 255/40/17 on the rear.You were right the first time.

Cheers Graham, I.ve just read through the posts again & I think it quite understandable for someone to get mixed up.

I am sure 235/45/17 & 255/40/17 are as near as damm it the same circumference. If you go to the millimeter I should have gone for 225/45/17 to the front, but because I was replacing 240 width tyres I went for the size closest.

You should find you have a little less tramlining with the slightly narrower fronts.
