Hi can anyone help me out here?

This part of out of my 1985 635. It is a blower control transistor mounted on a metal plate. I have tested it using my test meter and it is dead! It is 30mm between the centre of the 2 fixing bolts, i.e 30mm wide. It has the BMW part number '64111381784'. I found this at (part label 15 on the part diagram located at the website below) :

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=5382&mospi d=47199&btnr=64_0464&hg=64&fg=15

Under the bonnet there is a ribbed pannel that covers the blower motor etc. If this is removed there is the blower with two black plastic covers, and this part is mounted on the underside of the (offside, drivers side) housing that contains the blower.

As you can see the top of the transistor is all corroded and I cant see the transistor code. Can anyone please help me out. I want to get a new transistor and solder it in, rather than get it from BMW for £40.

I have been peering at an electrical parts catalogue; does 'TO3' or 'TO41' match up?

Thanks

-Ben

P.S. Please excuse the ruler, I am a Pharmacist and have'nt quite seen the irony of it yet!

ring fritz's bits to see if he has a 2nd hand one...about £40 from main dealer - you simply have to pop this plate in and out...no other way...tidy fingers needed...i recommend the wife/gf - did in 10 mins what i couldnt in 1.5 hours...women...
