Hi All,

Need to change the thermostat on my 525i, is it straight foward? do I need to drain the rad (had a new rad before I bought it).  What coolant/anti-freeze should I use?

Cheers

Assuming your car has the M50 24valve engine then I would have thought you could get away with not draining the coolant. I simply removed mine replaced it, let any air out through the bleed screw on the radiator then topped up the coolant level in the expansion tank. I then checked the levl every day for the next few weeks although I don't think it needed any more coolant adding. I collected the coolant I had lost and put it back in making up any losses with water. The cooling system has quite a large capacity so adding about 1/2 litre of water won't make much difference.
