Hi Tim
If you are having the same problem as me with your right hand dip light, (goes out when it feels like it!) Then the box! required is, open the bonnet, on the right side seen facing the front of the car is a large black box of tricks! Click the fastener open and in the middle of the box you will see a long black container! it pulls out and that contains the control. I only know this becasue some very helpful and (expert) told me a few months ago. But I cannot locate that message and I thought I had fixed the problem but the light went out again last night?? So if you find out or know what to do about it plese let me know?

sorry for not replying earlier chaps, and I'm no expert sam....., an ex is a has been, and a spurt is a drip under pressure !!!, and I'm not even that good.

Some stupid so and so went and hit my prized beamer, driving daddys car and doesnt have any insurance, daddy has decided it isnt his problem, son doesnt have any money, (you should see the house they live in, with its two detached double garages etc), so I'm walking now.

I'm sorry that didnt solve your problem sam, it sorted mine, if your over this way you can borrow the control box from mine, it isnt going to need it for a while if ever again.

What seems different about your problem is you seem to be saying it is only 1 light going out, mine was both dip lights, if its only one its much more likely just to be a wire of bulb holder, my offside rear buld holder used to like doing that until I threatened it with a pair of pliers.

Can you let me know if you mean 1 or both lights?

Best Wishes

Nigel

Hi Tim,
Found the info I got from an expert,(Nigel.E34.525i) The most likely problem is the 'lamp control module, which can be found as described in my previous message! PS When you unplug the module its likely to be covered in green gunk! BMW want you to buy a new one at £££££ clean it off and have a look inside, any obvious shorting at connections ! or what have you!

Cheers,
joe

Hi Nigel,
Did not notice your handle at the bottom of your reply! You helped be with this same problem I was (have) with mine. Sorry to hear about your thump! 'Take it out of him in blood!'Anyway I located your origional message to me and can say that I found the 'box' just as you said but I guess ed that the only way I could open it was to smash the top apart! So I went for a easy solution and squirted WD40 in to it. It did seem to work for a week or two but coming down the M40 a few night ago it all went dark again. Sometimes it one light sometimes it both? Answer..talk quitely and carry a BIG STICK!!

i pulled that long black box and the connections were clean. i opened the box up and i saw the relays mounted to the cicuit board. all the connections looked to be ok. i have heard of people just re-soldering all the connections but i don't know much about circuit boards and i'm not just going to put an iron to them without some instructons. Got any other options or maybe some "instructions"
