Toyo proxes T1R

I was going to replace my Bridgstones with some Toyo Proxes T1S for £88 each fitted. However the tyre place has said that the T1S is being phased out in favour of the T1R and they can do me them for the same price. Has anyone any experience of these tyres?

What kind of continentals? sportcontact?

I'm after something that will give me a sporty handling but that sin't too expensive.

Strangely enough I was just looking af FK451's. Can get them delivered to my door from My tyres for about £65 each. I've had ZE502's in the past and they were ok although that was on a Sierra.

Also seen Hankook Ventus sport K104 and Avon ZZ3. Both look good value but are they any good? There is too much choice!! 

T1-R a more hard wearing compund yet still the best wet grip tyre (along with Falken) on the market IMHO and not bad dry either, getting sufficiently sticky once you get some temp into the rubber.

I'm sticking 300bhp through mine and so far so good and ther're just scrubbing in.

They are sticky compound treads and as such wear faster than standard compund tyres. There is always a trade off. If your tyre lasts over 10K then it's likely not a particuarly great sport tyre but will be fine for non-M cars.

E.g. Miche' Pilot Sport.. last for ages, average dry grip and so so wet but lasts and lasts.

T1-R aimed at sport cars - I'm happy if I get 5K on a set and will live with 3K to then stick them on my track wheels when they go past 4mm.

Eagle F1 s and Conti Sport Contacts offer some better grip whilst lasting longer than the Toyos. A I say everything

My pick for a good all round weather tyre with half reasonable durability would be sth like the new Pirelli P Zero Nero or Miche' PS2s.

Of all of the above - the Toyo T1-Rs have the stiffest side walls for those interested so I could have afforded to run 255/265s more easily. T1-R supposed to be both quieter, longer lasting and woth more lateral grip in the wet.

Talk to Mark @ Blackcircles for advice.. he knows his black stuff.

My colleague has T1S fitted to his Alfa 145 and he said 'you know they're really sticky tyres when you get home and they've got gravel stuck to them'. He thinks there great, just not very hard wearing. If the T1Rs are a bit harder then they may be ok. Realistically I need them to last at least 10K. I do over 16K a year so any less and it starts to get expensive.

Sleeper, what speed did you get the tiny humming noise and minute vibration?? I ask as my friend has this issue and although it is not a problem he is curious as to what it is. His only starts at high speed and the vibration is hardly noticeable.

It starts at about 10 mph and gets worse up to 70. Then it tails off until wind noise and my whistly phone aerial takes over!

let me know if he sorts it though?
