Nice choice of car
Window Seals on a coupe anyone have some rough prices for these myne look a little shabby and could be on my things to do list ???

Seconded. I'd only had mine a fortnight before having a nice chat with a Policeman - he seemed to think 104mph wasn't appropriate for an A-road

I'd echo the comments about the rear suspension - have a good listen for clonks and rattles. It's not a mega expensive job to renew those parts (maybe £250 for RTA bushes and top joints supplied/fitted and wheel alignment).
Tyres are at pretty much £250 a pair for decent rubber, maybe more.
Cosmetically, wheels can lose their lacquer in spots without being kerbed, rear window seals can go a bit green and mouldy. Stone chips on the front are par for the course, check side skirts and front spoiler haven't been cracked and badly repaired.
Otherwise, enjoy looking - you'll certainly enjoy driving!

1st of all, good choice!. they are pretty much bullet proff apart from normal E36 bits that wear out and the vanos but don't let it put you off.
In the last 12 months I've replaced the RTA bushes, top mounts, oil pressure valve. They are fantastic cars and I could recommed one highly enough. Just don't try to run one on a budget.
Look for plenty of receipts and every service stamp. You can call BMW with the reg no when you've found the one you want and ask them questions about the service history and find out if the vanos was changed at some point in the cars history.

How much are you looking at going to,cash-wise if you don't mind me asking?
Coupe,cab or saloon?
Best advice I got when looking for mine was drive as many as you can and get a feel for them. Not that easy cos most sellers don't want test pilots. Even between the 3L and the evo the power delivery is different even if the extra ponies aren't, on the real road.
E36s are fairly tough up to about 80k miles and Ms are pretty much inline with that. Watch rear bushes and top suspension mounts plus brakes & tyres on the Ms. Cats are meant to last 80-100k miles but stress can cause probs at circa 60-70k miles and is big bucks to replace unless you de-cat.
Buy the best car you can afford, don't jump at the first one and remember these are highly tuned cars-they are great at everyday use but the engine'll need circa 10 miles to properly warm up before starting to really use the loud pedal. Also is very easy to do silly speeds and not realise how fast you're going.
