Just purchased rear anti roll bar (19mm) from Dinan in the states via Birds UK. Talking to Kevin Bird whilst placing the order he mentioned some uprated Dinan M6 springs that were purchased as a stock clearance from Dinan last year. Decided to go for the uprated springs at £165 for all four which I think is great value. The springs are 30% stiffer (but same height I understand) They have just arrived. ARB is complete with re-inforcing plates and adjustable links (£155 all in) and is blue in colour. Springs are the same blue. Together with the camber plates (original BMW items) I now have a stage 2 Dinan set up. Original Bilstein Sport shocks are to be retained. Just got to fit them now! Expecting a precise, firm ride with the inherent understeer dialed out. Track days here I come. ARB is still available from DINAN for those who are interested. Springs I believe are not but worth a try. Anyone looking for original M635 ARB's and springs (rears are new, fronts have 30k miles)? Ian |

ian - obviously no plans to lower the suspension then, but what dampers are you using?
i know bistein offered uprated units for the m6 a few years ago - just wondering what options are available |

Staying with the bilstein sports. I think you can go for bilstein hd's which are a bit stiffer and have different valving. Didn't want to lower the car (these may actually lower the car 10mm anyway) as you can end up with camber problems at the rear. I've already changed out the rear trailing arm bushes for originals and it was a massive job so I don't want to go there again to fit eccentric bushes. I've gone for the springs primarily because the anti roll bars are being uprated from 21mm/16mm front/rear to 25mm/19mm adjustable. This puts extra stress on the mounts and hence I am chaning out the front mounts for uprated items. The springs being stiffer will actually reduce the stress on the new mount with the new ARB plus give a firmer ride. Ian

I'll bite you arm off for those springs. Have been trying to get a matched set for two months. Have my set of M6 bilstein inserts, the bigger uprated fat jobbies, just need springs. As for anti roll bars my cars already has the standard six units, and i want to uprate them to the 25mm bigger ones in the future. One job at a time mind you.

Too late, I've reserved them, James. Sorry. Better luck next time, eh? ...you can have Kev's old "Highline" suspension by way of consolation prize, if that floats your boat? Edited by Horsetan |

Ivan right now i hate you If you know how many phone calls i have made in the last two months trying to find some springs you will never know. The search continues. I have all the shocks, and some old rear springs, I need front springs big time. Time to give dinan USA a call i think. James |

Horestan Show me the colour of your money. You have two weeks otherwise they go to someone else. A little bird tells me you have winced on deals before! Hope this isn't the case. Cheers and timing is the essence of good comedy Ian |

Yes, I can see the dartboard on your bedroom door, with my photo in the centre
That, James, is not my problem. In this business, you have to move fast. You already beat me to the 16" Alpinas last year, so as far as I'm concerned it's currently a one-all draw, with everything to play for
It's your (inheritance) money..... maybe your old man could help you source the springs you need? Edited by Horsetan |

The only deal I've pulled out on is for a set of 17" Alpinas which were simply too wide for my Six. At least I had the opportunity to test them first before returning them. Anything else is simply defamatory, and I utterly refute that allegation by your "little bird". <Rant ON> At least I'm not given to wasting huge amounts of money on short-lived experiments.... having spent about five-and-a-half grand since August 2002 getting the car refurbished and basically right, I'm not one for throwing cash around. Whatever I've bought for it since it got back on the road in December 2002 has been confirmed as compatible - and once fitted, it stays fitted. <Rant OFF>
Agreed. Edited by Horsetan |

Yes, I have a "Highline" set, but they're not new, although they are relatively clean. They were originally meant for my '83 Six, but are now surplus thanks to me buying Ian's old M635CSi set-up. Would you like to PM me, so we can agree on price? Edited by Horsetan |

M6 springs without the bilstein dampers will give you a car with very funny handling. Bilsteins will set you back £140 - £160 per corner |
