Had another run on the dyno. First time around peak was ~220 lb ft at 3500rpm, then fell off a cliff resulting in ~220bhp. Very lean fuelling. No faults logged. I cleaned the mass air flow meter, disconnected the battery for 20 minutes to reset the ECU, ran a couple of tanks with STP injector cleaner. It seemed more and more happy to rev over the following 1000 miles so I revved it round to 6500 as often as possible. Now, 255lbft at 3500 which is more or less flat right up to nearly 7k before dropping off abruptly, 290bhp and perfect fuelling. Car feels a lot stronger everywhere and seems to have a reasonable turn of speed. Andy |

Nice one. Im presuming it drives a lot better now. 290 bhp is very reasonable on the rollers. |

Yes it's got a nice rush now through the revs. I'm feeling that 6500 is a reasonable change point now instead of, like, 3 :) Squirting past those infernal 45mph A road slowsters in 3rd seems to raise the old smile more than anything. Not had the car long and only ever driven fastish front wheel drives before, so I'm still feeling my way out of damp corners carefully so as to keep out of the ditches. The supplying dealer was standing behind the car and seemed more relieved than me at the cheap fix! All credit to him. Nice to start being able to enjoy the thing a bit now. Might do Snetterton in the spring, see how the times compare with the bike. Andy |

These are good figures for a standard evo. Mine ran 293BHP standard 302.2BHP with my induction system i now have supersprint and a concept tuning remap. its going on the rollers on jan 22nd so i will post results |

I'd be interested to see that comparison of Snetterton Andy - although I suspect on the bike it would be more down to high tuned up the ole' ringpiece was! Scary!!

Yes as far as I can tell it's standard. I can't tell by looking at the exhaust but since none of the rest of the car is prawned up I'm guessing that isn't either. Plus it's as quiet as the grave unless you're accelerating when there's a bit of rustling and induction from the engine room. Hearing the figures are good is music to my ears. Going from a diesel torque curve to an apparent good one is very encouraging. Shame it's not making 300 though. Looking at the torque curve, it's still holding on to 240 at 6k, 230 at 6500. But then it drops off abruptly (fair enough!) and is about 205 at 7300 where peak power occurs --288bhp. I guess if it could hold onto that torque for longer I'd see 300 but frankly I don't want to keep using it at >7k What's the recommended route for liberating just another 10-20bhp, and what's the effect on low, mid and high torque? I won't change the exhaust, may chip it, may dick with the induction (provided it doesn't get loud). But not yet. I'm just enjoying the car now it's working properly, and getting used to it. I've gone round Snetterton at 1:20 on the supermono and I'd be amazed if I got anywhere near that in the M3. What top speeds are you people seeing at the end of the straight? The racebike has no speedo but we estimate about 140, my GSX-R600 roadbike used to get to 155, but I never timed that on a lap. Andy |

Oh I dunno Andy, I manged 1:24 in my 120 bhp bathtub on caravan tyres, so your EVO should be fairly quick with the longest straight in GB to let all those horses out to play! Maybe want to lift for Coram though... |

Andy,
What were your rear wheel results ? I'd like to compare with mine. I know my car currently has Castrol TWS 10w60 oil in it (aka: Tar), as previously but apparently no longer recommended by BMW UK, and I do wonder how much extra power I'd get with a normal, thinner, oil. Some time to go until the next oil service tho. |

Andy - Good numbers - as a couple of the others have mentioned they look spot on. Bet you are happy with that! How does the car feel revving at the top end? Smoother than before? The torque figure is excellent - BMW claime 258 iirc and you are virtually bang on. tw99 - Now wanting to open up the whole 10w60 can of worms again but do you mind if I ask what makes you think that BMW UK have now gone off it in e36 cars?

It was always smooth everywhere, but just there was no benifit in revving it up. I'm using 10w40 silkolene pro s btw. My vanos was replaced last June but I'm told a 60W will help quieten one down which rumbles a little. I'm sure it'll rob the power though a bit. I was wrong with peak torque, looking at the chart again it's actually 245 not 255. Still strong feeling though. The chart I got Friday doesn't show rear wheel horsepower, but the ratio from the previous one seems to show factoring up by 1.195 so I'm guessing 290 flywheel = 240 rear wheel. Andy |
