Is this just for BMWs, or is it an open day?
Ciao,

Thanks John, saw that in "Straight 6", good price and a circuit I haven't done before. I will be giving the club office a call on Monday.

Better Driving Days carry Insurance for BMW Club Members. Some Members also bring other performance cars that they own.

I'm quite tempted. Only done a total of an hour on track and most of that has been at Combe. Never in my BMW though.

I might sound really stupid now.. but what generally happens at these days?

Yes, but it's for club members only? Sorry if I'm being a bit dense.

Seriously though, I take it you are familiar with track days and the like?

It is the opportunity to explore the performance potential of your car on a private circuit well away from the public highway.
We are there to offer help, encouragement and guidance. You are there to have fun, learn a lot about your car and improve your driving skills.
There are no speed limits to reign you in and also there is no pressure to go faster than you feel safe with.
It's your day, enjoy it.

MattB106- the members are placed into groups of,  (1)Newcomers who have no or little previous circuit driving . Then (2) drivers who have some experience of driving a circuit, followed by (3) drivers who have a number of BDD experience , and tend to be the faster drivers-BUT--have the same requirement placed on them, to Respect other Slower cars on Track.

Any "Red mist drivers", are Invited to call in to have a Chat with the No 1 boss of the Day in the Pits.Marshalls around the circuit with 2 way radio,s are in contact with the Pits.

Instructor,s take the GP 1 drivers in a seperate follow the Leader laps, with the lead car behind the instructing car,  going to the rear of the group after 1 lap and next car comes up +++.After some sessions like this, the GP 1 cars go out on their own,Instructors do go out to see how they are driving, and are available throughout the day, to go in a drivers car to give 1 x 1 tuition.

The greatest advantage is that no traffic is coming the other way (Most Times !!!) so one can take the "Ideal Line" thro corners and feel how the car behaves and correct slides and over/under steer in safety.

In 2005, we will have IAM Instructors at each event, so that we can relate Circuit reflexes-Not speed ,  to sharper on road driving observations. The IAM drivers are all volunteers, giving Their time to try to improve the standards on our overcrowed roads.Well worth a drive out with them.

The Ultimate aim for the day, is YOU learnt about your car and yourself and will come again for another BDD.

Like Nick says!!!--he IS a No 1 BOSS, and wants you to Enjoy-and Respect. Then its all worth it.

A bit confused - cause I called the club office today to book this event and was told it was cancelled - although admittedly this was after I had to explain exactly where I saw the advert - when the event was and what page of the magazine it was on - so there was a little bit of confusion to begin with - can anyone clarify - is the Castle Combe day still going ahead

Thanks

If its still going ahead, and my car is sorted, I'll be there!

I work at the garage outside the circuit, I will try and find out if its still going ahead anyway.

If it is going ahead - myself and my wife want slots - not sure if we'll just take my roadster or both yet - but I really do want to go - as the others are generally too far North to be practical for us

Castle Combe racing school hold track days throughout the year. Normally once a month. These are usually for road legal, silenced cars. They are Ł165 per day. For more details call 01249 782929. I am unsure what insurance you will get, if any, with it.

Just because the BDD won't be there this year doesn't mean we who want to go can't!

Ok, there will be lots of other makes there, but Castle Combe is a lovely place, with a few nice roads leading upto the circuit.

It would be nice to get a group of us there in a few months?

Paul.

Do the cars on BDD days have to be fully road legal? I dont really want to take my E39 540iA out on the track, but have been looking into buying an E28 M535i for track days and the like - it'll most probably be road legal so I can drive it on the road too, but just wondered what the position was? i.e. does it have to be taxed & mot'd?
