Both my E34's have done this, the current, a 91 525 does it, also the M5 did, usually when you hit a slight bump under cornering, you get a steering wheel wobble and a shudder, and can basically feel the wheel move. Had the car up on ramps and had it checked the other day, there were 3 or us looking at it and found nothing!! also MOT tester played with it for 15 mins and found nothing (it passed) M5 was same, put it into Autobavaria while i went on hols, he couldn't find the fault (worryingly!) I'm not giving up though, have been advised possibly the drop rod!! so when i get the time to investigate further i'll let you know. |

hi there, yeh i does feel like the front left,i`m gonna get it on a ramp and have a look,as for the power,it feels quite good,my last car was a 90 corolla gti and that was quick, but the beemer feels less quicker but at 50 -90 mph it picks up pretty quickly, over taking is good in 4th 50- 85 no hesitation,i like the mpg gauge very good idea! 5th gear 60 mph,40 mpg.cheers les Edited by 518les |

Hi and welcome. Are you positive it's the left? It could be a balancing problem, it could be a very bad wheel bearing....but that would give itself away by noise too. It could also be the suspension, either the main spring qr the bushes......if it is anything to do with the susp. then you need to replace both sides.....gets expensive! Could also be a badly buckled brake disc. By the way, there are not many E34 518's left, if you see a scrap one you may want to pick it clean! It wasn't a big seller due to underpower.........my 520 is underpowered so the 1.8 must be working to pull that 1.6 / 1.7 tonnes round. How do you find the power? |
