My brother is thinking of buying a Z3M roadster or Coupe. He would prefer a coupe but they are a lot more expensive - so probable a roadster. Does anyone have any advice on buying these cars? I dont mean what to look for mechanically etc but more some info on running costs. Would they be any more expensive to run than an E36 M3 [as they have same running gear etc] ? Plus, as a matter of interest? Would an M Coupe or M Roadster be faster than an E46 M3 in a straight line? I saw on an old Clarkson Vid (i think) a big drag race between a M Coupe and a 22B Subaru, Lancer Evo6 anda pile other stuff and the M Coupe was easily faster than them all which was good to see the Rice Burner getting eaten up the road ;) |

Another thing I forgot to mention - what is behind the seats in a M Coupe? Is there much room for bags and stuff, and how deep is the storage space? Judging by the shape of the car you would expect there to be a fair amount of room in them but maybe the purposely made in in such a way where you couldnt store much stuff?

I prefer the roadster, my gf and brother have one, 2.8 tho. Its a convertible aswell. The M coupe is a funny car, not sure what the design was aimed at. Does it have rear seats? Looks a bit like that funny small hatchback from Waynes World!!

The coupe does not have rear seats, but does have a bigger area for bags etc than the Roadster. The Coupe and Roadster are lighter than the E36 M3 EVO and have the same engine (S50), What is does not have however is the 6 speed box. The later Coupes and roadsters (2001-2002) share the same engine as the E46 M3, but with reduced BHP (325 in the ZM, I think the M3 is 343) The S50 ZM did not have any form of traction control, The S54 ZM has DSC. The coupe ZM's did have a slightly different suspension setup, this was fitted to the later Roadsters. I doubt if any of the ZM's would out drag an E46 M3, but it would be close. If you want any more info regarding the ZM's then take a look at the Z Register Web site, http://www.zroadster.net/forum/portal.php There are several threads on there regarding the differences between the models. I hope this information has been of assistance.
