After six years or wind noise from the door/window rubber on my 1985 635csi, could anybody recommend a good garage who can carry out the work, maybe you have had the same problem?

I have changed the glass and the  rake on the window but still it sings. someone tried to help and cut the rubber which made it even worse.

Scotthalls have offered at about £350.00 but am not sure if they will guarantee that the noise will be gone, I think I would sooner work with someone who has done one before, I don't expect miracals but to hear the CD at 79 mph would be nice.

This is a notoriously difficult and time-consuming job.

You need to take off the window/roof side trim strips, including the chrome detail. If you are perchance unhandy, you will distort the chrome, and new strips will then be needed.

The seals themselves are easy to pull out, but oh so difficult to properly seat when being inserted into position. Get it wrong (and I've been putting off this job since I acquired my '83 in 1996) and you'll still have wind noise.

I will give my dismantler acquaintance a ring, as he occasionally restores Sixes too, so might be able to say what special tools you might need.

You do realise David that the speed limit is 70mph and not 79mph..

Hope you're not admitting to speeding..You'll not see me speeding

I called local dealer for price on door seals for my E36 M3 Coupe and they said it was £125 each!  Needless to say I think I can live with the existing ones for the time being.

On the topic of rubber seals, can anyone tell me whats the best couse of action to replace the seal on the sunroof as mine has a very small gap in the centre at the rear and is starting to channel water in, i know this because the cover is currently stuck in the roof lining.

Any suggestions would be nice!

Do the job in the summer when it's warm.

Life will be much easier as you don't want to crack them.

I have a second hand set that i will be exchanging when the weather gets hotter.

I broached this delicately with my independent specialist and he said that you must also not adjust the door for a period after fitting the new seals to give them time to compress.

I have a nasty wind whistle (no comments from the peanut gallery, please!) and I think this job is in my future, but I must admit, it's a scary thought.

I too have massive wind noise comming from the drivers side, I would say at what speed its noisy, but my speedo is dead!!! I thought it was because teh doors have dropped a bit with age, but it seams like seals is a common problem!

 

I'll add it to my list
