The limiter is a bit annoying on the trips to the ring and the odd late night top speed blat!!

I take it then, if something goes pop!! then the warranty is about as much use as a mudguard on a tortoise

I think it would be invalidated, I have a BMW warranty on my E36 M3 EVO, and as such have not had the limiter removed, the warranty keeps paying for itself (Ł3000 this year).

Don't think it is possible to detect whether it has been remapped. All cars have different map values even on the same model.

See Jayson (chippeduk), very close to 350bhp can be had from the 3.2 M engine from a remap.

They can't tell It's been done! I had a Vanos done on mine under Warr with VanAkken chip on board.
Limiter removed car will go off clock (180+ possible)
and rev higher to 7800ish.Claimed about 10% extra power
so around 350bhp.but...my new one doesn't feel any slower, and Vanos failed at 58k and Vanos gear noise appeared at 65k(coincidence?)

350 bhp from a remap?!?!

Wow that is incredible - 100bhp is very hard to better on most cars (although I have no doubt that if any engine can do it, this one can!)

Anybody get any dyno runs? Chippeduk/m3kuk?

Car off the clock is incredible...

Nah! BMW's engineers recon the Evo could pull 180 with the limiter removed(clock stops @170).
Never dyno'd mine just 'seat of the pants figure'.
However, just hammered my new 'un in 3rd and It pulled
7600rpm without missing so maybe I'ts chipped as well.
I'm up for a BHP/dyno shoot out if we can arrange one!

I would be interested to put my E36 M3 EVO on a Dyno, to see what it's really putting out.

Where did you get your remap done?

But isnt the E36 EVO 321bhp in standard form, I know it is in my M Roadster and it uses the same engine.

Yes Z3_Tony

The e36 evo is claimed at 321bhp by BMW. In reality they tend to make around 300 when actually put on the rollers (which is still a very high specific output for a NA engine). Bearing this in mind, 350bhp is high (though not by any means impossible) from a remap.

Ultimately you should dyno the car before and after and look for improvements - regardless of the numbers themselves which may be down to roller inaccuracy. And of course if you can't feel it on the road - it ain't worth nout!

dt_evo I dont doubt that it probably only puts out 300bhp my query was in your original post as quoted. The way you have worded it make it look like your E36 evo is only getting 250bhp which i believe is the quoted figure for the non evo (but could be wrong). The american version of the S50 M Roadster only produces 240bhp, The S54 only get 315bhp even though the european spec one has 325bhp, the same engine in the E46 M3 has 343bhp ( the S54 M Roadster is detuned slightly to try to avoid the spun shell scenario, but it doesnt stop it though)

I would imagine you were refering to the 100bhp per litre barrier in your original post, a 100bhp gain from a remap would be nice though. M Blur has managed to get 345bhp i believe out of his S50, confirmed by dyno. But that was not from a remap alone.

My M Roadster is standard, and has more than enough power even for the Ring, certainly more enjoyable than the 1.9 Z3 I took round last year.

Absolutely Tony!!

Yes you are right, 100bhp/litre was what I was referring to.

Think the pre-evo car is quoted at 286bhp btw.
