Hello Folks. My name's Mark and tomorrow Im off to pick up my first M3 , a Black 1989 model. It is an import but Im not that bothered as I got it at what I would consider to be a fairly reasonable price. Ive been waiting 14 years to be in a position to have one, and now it's about to happen. Fingers crossed. Just wanted to let you all know! Cheers Mark. |

Hi Mark, Bet you can't wait! 14 years is a long time . Don't worry about it being an import cause about 90% of them are I reckon, only a very few 'genuine' UK cars but from what I know they are all pretty much the same anyhow! I should be finally getting my '88 M3 on my drive in about 2 weeks. It's currently at PowerStation have the gearbox and 'diff rebuilt as they were a bit worn... You planning on taking the M3 on the track? |

Hi Jon 14 years......more than most prison sentances! LOL It all started when I was an apprentice tech with my then local BMW dealer. My age and lack of driving license back then didn't help, but during my time with the dealership (5 years) I did get to drive a few including a 2.5 Evo when they came out. I was also lucky enough to spend a week with Prodrive, back in the days when they were running the factory squad for BTCC. Still got the official jacket and signed photo's of Steve Soper and Jonathon Palmer, oh, and me! I have no plans to take it on the track.........yet (said the same thing about my bike but 2 months later I was out there!) Fortunately quite a few of my old work mates still work for BMW dealers so help isn't far away, plus I now work for BMW GB at the Mini Plant in Oxford, so contacts should hopefully be in abundance. How about you, does yours make it on the track or is it purely a road car? Also they are a couple of things I would like to do to it, firstly ditch the manual windows for electric (yeah, I know, lazy! lol) and if poss fit an mph speedo, but I guess the speedos are as rare as hens teeth. Only time will tell. Cheers for the reply Jon Much appreciated Regards Mark.

Mark I think either Moseley Motorsport or Martek do the speedo dials - £25 or so I paid for mine. Geoff |

Mark This would make us near neighbours, well most of the time assuming you live near where you work as I'm about to move to my girlfriends place in Abingdon before splurging on somewhere new near that area (double garage being my only criteria!) Mine's a black sport evo, only had it 6 weeks or so and before that I had a non evo for nearly 3 years, top cars. If you fancy meeting up for a slightly sad car nut beer sometime?! cheers Jason |

Hi Mark, I'm sure you'll end up taking the M3 on the track.. they all seem to cry out for it as though the normal roads just aren't enough to keep them happy! I have bought mine soley because I want to start doing trackdays. It will be my everyday car as well but as I work form home there won't be much use for it in the week! I knoe that my M3's already done quite a few trackdays as I'm buying it of an friend who has used it for a year or so but seeing as he's a trader he never registerd it.... so I know the car can take it, just need to find out if I can dish it out ;) Cheers |

Hello Everyone Well I finally picked it up! Yeeeeeehaaaaaaaa. Got a few probs I need to sort out. It was fun coming back down the M40 without the speedo working. Also had a queue of friends/family that wanted to see it, and just soaking up the attention that other people pay to it was different, if a little unerving on occassions. Many thanks for all your replies and advice, I shall be following them up very soon, many thanks to Geoff and Uwe for the info. Jaseb-- I live in Aylesbury which isn't that far from abingdon (30-40mins , if Im feeling lazy!) so yeah, would be good to meet up for a beer at some point. I work shift on a 2 week rotation, so Im about to start 2 weeks of lates which kinda screws things up, but hey, no pleasure without pain! Track days- Hmmmm I think I will avoid the pukka tarmac for a while, but never say never If anyone wants to get hold of me, you can mail on ratbark71@yahoo.co.uk Cheers everyone Regards Mark.

At some point in the summer I plan to hold a BBQ for E30 M3 owners, just so we can all be sad and drink beer, play on my Racestation and swap boring stories - looks like you are close to Southampton. Interested parties e-mail me on g@creative-vinyls.co.uk so I can put you on the notify list when a date is set. Geoff |
