Guys,

I have a '95 E36 M3 Convertible.  I have noticed that on the On Board Computer, there is a code button.

Can anyone tell me what this button is for ?

Regards

VJ

The code button is a second type of immobiliser, if you push the button and then enter 1234 (for instance) then press set/res key then leave the car then when you return and try to start the car it will "bong" at you and ask for the code, if you enter 1234 and hit the set/res then you will be allowed to start the car. If you get the code wrong then you can't start the car or if what happened to me, I set the code went away and when I got back and pushed the code button it broke leaving (as I thought at the time) stranded, but if you pull out the OBC and disconect it and then put it back in it resets the code so you can get around this in an emergency or if you are a crook, so do not rely on it as total security.

Paul,

Thats right, you can put in any 4 digit code that you want and change it each time, as long as you put in the same code to unlock it as you did to lock it then you are OK.
