Having been encouraged by Nigel i went in for the IAM Advanced test. Anyway a couple of drives and it was time to do the test for which i passed confortable. Do i agree with everything they say? Probable not Do I think it was worthwhile doing? Yes If you are into cars and enjoy driving i would do the test just to say that you have. Then when you talk about your driving stories you can actually say you are in the top 10% of drivers on the road and not be wrong.

It's already paid for.....
I'll have a look at the IAM Site and see what's involved. I did have a driving assessment over 5 years ago which knocked 10% off my insurance premium. It did highlight a couple of areas which I improved but I could well have regressed again. |

Just the fact you say this means that you are thinking critically about your driving, which is the main thing. Those who think they are good drivers with no justification or acceptance of room for improvement are the big problem IMHO! Simon (regressing since 1983 when I joined the IAM...) |

Once youve gotten to the standard, the easiest way of staying there is to become an observer. Not only do you help the system that helped you, but it really does help keep you on your toes. And....it only takes a couple of hours a week, nothing more. |

Excuse Me!!! Mr Nigel--- There are a few others on this site, who give assessment drives, NOT always at a NSL pace, more a Warp Velocity. Our observation gets down to the 2nd blade of grass, on the left just passed the end of the road grill. The Polizei have their fan club, but No camera,s. I will be assisting Mr Kevin , in positive thoughts like "Later Later" Edited by B 7 VP |

What John is referring to is the upcoming BMW Driver Training at the fabled Nurburgring.
I will be a complete novice and John will be one of the Masters. The objective and tution is of a slightly different nature to the IAM but still enhances your ability at the wheel. |

There was an IAM assessment running by the Baloon festival (?) at Cofton park today. They were using MGR`s Q gate as a base. decieded to have an observed run & see how good/bad they thought i was. Went very well, was told that if it was a Pre-test there were only a couple of points that i needed to watch. Sum up was:- Well done, a good, safe, comfortable & well disciplined drive, Very Smooth Only problem now is that when i got home nobody belives they are talking about me, i must have picked up the wrong assessment !

Well done Peter, so will you be joining "the smug one's" as Nigel so quaintly put's it?
John - Yep, not long to go. Looking forward to the full experience. It will nice to be driving the M3 with the steering wheel on the correct side for the roads. |
