Not sure but friends in Regents Street say it's heaving and that you might get a better look if its on TV

Do you think anyone will overtake? No? Just like the real thing then, a procession of advertising hoardings. |

Strikes me as a desperate and pointless attempt to drum up interest in a fading 'sport'. What's happened to F1?

Have just got back from Regents St. Could not move, could not see, the only good thing was the sound!
Apart from that I think I would have seen more on TV. Saying that I would back a Grand Prix in London, if the idea goes ahead. Porsche need to get back to F1 to make things more interesting! I would like to see the look on the Ferrari boys faces when they cant win anymore! Well at least the predicted rain did not fall. P.S. I got one picture..........of somebodys hand and head!!! |

Okay Peter H, one of those things I did not research before I had my say, I am sure I was once told that Porsche was banned from racing because they kept on winning!
I cant remember who I heard it from but maybe he was talking about some other racing category. Sorry for my stupidity, I should have researched this subject myself, before voiceing my opinion. |

917 Also, went to Regent street last night too, sounded great and regardless it would be excellent to see them down Park Lane then round and back up. They just need to rid the cars of the billboards on the back and replace the missing rubber. |

I went too. Personally, thought it was a shambles. Two tube stations closed, couldn't see anything, didn't wait for it to start as was pi**ed off after 50 minutes of the only action being 4 roadsweepers going by.......(Why they waited until 6:15 to decide to clean the road, is beyond me...)
Wasn't a good advert as to how London would deal with huge crowds (Olympics or F1). |

agree with Lancelot - pretty shambolic and encountered some fairly nasty crowd control 'officials' too....
Brundle was the highlight for me, but that's not saying much because I only saw about 0.000001 sec of his 'run'. Reminded me of why i stopped going to gp's about 18 years ago...they even had the noisy helicopters. Clearly this is a cynical ploy by ecclestone to put more pressure on the brdc/silverstone...and livingstone is being dragged in to the pirahna club like a lamb to the slaughter... Any of you guys near regent street?? I work just around the corner if anyone fancies a pint?? |

Unfortunately I no longer work in London.
I do agree that it is a tactical thing and the crowd 'control' was desparate and all I saw was some tyre smoke! but I still think it would be a great event. I'm not an F1 fan in the slightest because of everything it has become but it could be great, why does one circuit have to be used every year? why not get Brands up to scratch? If they need an idea of how popular it could be if the racing was exciting, they should go to Donnington on the 25th! Anyway, grumble over. almost, on a positive note, it was good to see that a lot of people are interested in something car related to troop into town. Phil |

Not only did I make the mistake of going but I compounded it by taking 6 year old F1 fan, SS7 Junior. We ended up in Lower Regest street near the F1 compound/ghetto. The whole thing was a shambles; the only people who saw anything were in the offices and roofs around. It was more than an hour late in starting, and the crowds were huge, so by the time the first F1 car started we'd been pretty uncomfortable for more than 2 hours. To crown it all, some of the vehicles that took part in the parade were then parked in front of us, including a Hummer; about as big a road block as you could get. The crowd became understandably pretty restless, and more than insults were thrown.. I had to take a rather shaken 6 year old home after 3 cars had gone past. I think its pretty indicative of how F1 treats its enthusiasts, and probably a good illustration of why the Olympic bid will fail. Why wasn't it held in the Mall or Hyde Park where there was more space? SS7 |

I think it also shows just how popular F1 still is in the UK - and also how OVER Priced the GP is at Silverstone!
Near on £200 for a Grand stand seat on the Sunday! What a JOKE!!!!!!!! |

It's all been said above. Caos all round. Managed to get assulted, kicked, abused and snarled at by what I can only discribe as NON motorsport fans.
Such as shame 'cause if it was 'organised' it could have been good. And they rekon they want a GP in central London... "Grand Pissup" sorry |

They were purposeful, to clean the road as close to the F1 cars running as possible, as when the show cars and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang went up, and all the event organisers and crowd's litter would cause debry on the road! don't fancy a stone or something getting flicked up off those tyres at 13,000 RPM into my face also heard that City of Westminster were a sponsor of the event so it was a bit of advertising for the Council to show their presence!! |
