I've took the caps of my strut tops and found that the driver side has a split erm...what looks like a metal cup that the rubber bush sits in, this could be a cause of my knock/rattle. My question is can this be changed without removing the strut? or is that being too hopeful! (I'm going to buy a HAynes manual next week, so can stop asking silly questions!) |

In a word - no ! You need to remove the strut and dismantle it as this bearing is part of the top spring retainer/ mount. I'm sure you could find a way of doing it 'in situ' if you tried hard enough, but it would be much more difficult than removing the strut. |
