Anyone out there no of any good bodyshops in the teesside area. I have just noticed some rust starting to come through on the lip of both rear arches as well as on the front strip that the front grill sits in. It's not bad yet so I will probably wait until next year but I want to start finding out prices.

Don't know of any in Teeside but I would recommend getting it seen too asap. Once rust gets a hold it spreads fast - ask me how I know!!! |

I may pop into arundale and get a quote. I am willing to do all the preparation myself, that way I can be sure that all the rust is removed! I think I will also give south cleveland garages a go. Never thought about asking the guys at Teesside autotech. I will be taking the car in for a service soon so I will speak to them then. |

I am going to have a go at doing it my self! I figured that if I make a mess it won't cost any more to get it done proffessionally that it would in the first place. In fact I am confident I can do a good job on the prep, it's just the paint and laquer which will be a challenge! Wish me luck. |

even if you make a mess you had a go. Make sure you go around the rust and find shiny metal. Try giving it an undercoat with hamerite red oxide paint thats designed to be painted onto rust

Cheers Jimmy. I am a bit short of free time and cash at the moment so I won't be doing anything for a while yet. BTW that's quite a nice collection of cars you have. |

I have noticed an E36 near me with rust on the arches, too.
You might have seen the recent debate in Total BMW magazine on whether E36s rust. The magazine has asserted more than once that E36s do not rust, period, unless they have been damaged and repaired. That prompted a letter from Scandinavia saying that E36s certainly do rust! It seems that we are a year or two behind the Scandinavians (less salt), but we will get there all the same. |

Well, I have seen a lot of E36s especially early ones with rust comming through around the back arches. It's only on the inner lip on mine at the moment. Oh and as far as I am aware my car has never been damaged. The front pannel rusted in the first place because stone chips were left untreated. |

For a reasonably small repair you could try "Chips-Away". Got talking to the guy who's just bought the franchise about getting any small jobs done on my 635. Reckoned they can match any paint using a computer matching process so they wouldn't have to paint a whole panel. He'll come to you & do the job or give you a free estimate. Have a look on www.chipsaway.co.uk Tel Tony Bliss on 0191 2532976 Mob. 07742 096807 Should be worth a try. |

Grahame, Try my link above or look in Yellow pages For Chips Away. Can't say how good he is but he gives a warranty (or so I believe). Good luck & let us know how you get on. p.s. Will ask for recommendations at the next local owners meeting at the Holiday Inn Cramlington 8th Sept. See you there if you can make it. |
