    Posted: 30-May-2004 at 13:53

First off, hello.  My first post on here, I've been lurking for a while

I've recently bought an E36 M3, 3.0l 95 model.

What I want to know is.. Is there an induction (airbox replacement) kit available for this car?.  I've seen panel filters, but no induction kit.

I'm also looking for an aftermarket exhaust system (including de-cat), seen a few of these available.

Now before I get flamed I'm not a boy racer but who can't appreciate the sound these cars make??.  Thing is it's only just audible, I've seen/heard an m3 with de-cat system at full chat and it sounded awesome, almost Ferrari 'esque.

I want the induction and exhaust system purely to enjoy the superb sound.  Any info would be great.

Also, has anyone fitted the steering joint (was a failing prob on these cars) themselves?, I've got a new one coming and intend putting it on myself, any tips?.  I rang bmw and it was replaced in 2001 and despite me saying it'd gone quickly and did they want to replace it again, they were'nt playing ball.

 dude,

Welcome, good to see another 3.0L M3 on the board

Okay, Supersprint do the best Decat pipe, this is around £270. Rear boxes you have a big selection. so depending on your price range you are looking at £275 for a Mongoose, £340 for a scorpion, £380 Supersprint(too quiet) or right up to £795 for an ACSchnitzer.

I know peeps on here dont like Scorpions, but IMO it is the best value and looks and sounds nice. The STW tail pipes are the best bet. as they look close to standard just slightly bigger diameter.

Induction Kits, you have to be a bit careful here, the best one is the GruppeM induction kit but this is around £500 , you will get cheaper ones available but make sure they come with a heat shield.

I have a BMC F1 panel filter in mine, a Supersprint Decat and ACS rear box. Would love the GruppeM but its too much of the green stuff.  I love the sound of my motor, it turns heads and no one has said it sounds crap. Everyone loves it including me

James

Get yourself around and ask to hear peoples engines running-I run a k&n panel filter with supersprint decat and backbox and would disagree with Mono but thats because I wanted a nice sound without excessive volume and thats what I've got.

I personally wouldnt want Scorpion but its personal taste.

Induction kit you can go from the basic k&n or PiperX kits for under a ton right up to the Cabut kit circa £400 or Gruppe M at £600 or PiperX viper kit for £300.

Thanks for the welcome/info.

I didn't realise there were so many induction kits available, being a Japanese car man before and alongside the bmw I've never really come accross places that sell performance stuff for the german cars.  Didn't see any induction stuff on ebay, just panel.

K&N or pipercross sound ok to me, heat sheild shouldn't be a problem to self fabricate.

Anyone got some induction kit pictures fitted?.  I presume the k&N fits quite far in the engine bay.

Are there any sound clips floating about of M3's with exhaust mods?.

If you click on the link in my sig for M3 theres some photos on there of my old 318iS with PiperX which I prefer the look of over k&n.

Also, try Supersprint and Ca-auto

Whereabouts r u based?

Dudes, just a question to tap into your knowledge about pipes then... My rear box is aftermarket and stamped on the underside is "Remus" and "ACSnitzer". Ive seen the Remus ones retail for about £400, but then u say the AC ones are £800. I dont know much bout pipes but is this a collaboration between the two makes or something? Im presuming mine must have cost somewhere in the middle, about £600?!? Any ideas appreciated!

Whats on the tailpipes themselves Neil?

ACS, Hamann and Hartge to name but 3 don't make the pipes themselves-they use exhaust manufacturers to make pipes to their spec.

Supersprint for example are apparently all handmade.

John,

On the actual pipes themselves it says ACSnitzer. This is also stamped on the rearbox but with Remus in smaller writing under it.

Dudes,

Johns right, ACS exhausts are made by the austrian firm Remus.....Basically the ACS bumps the price up as I dont think there is much difference from a standard Remus box??

I have one on my car and it has the ACS stamp underneath along with Remus in small writing.

i was wondering why no one had mentioned remus (up till now)?

they have anlways made quality exhaust back boxes and look and sound good too (not too loud, just that low rumble). If you look in the demon tweeks catalogue, you'll see that they're around 300-350 (which is pretty good value considering they make the ACS boxes too, so you're getting something pretty similar).

As for intakes, as mentioned before Gruppe M is probably the best, unless you have loads of ££ to burn, then go for the full carbon boxes.

Try the cabut one at ca-automotive

The viper kits tend to go for sub £300.

Personally I'd have to go for the Viper cos:

a] I know someone at PiperX and they did me a 1-off for the 318iS very cheap.
b]check out the pics of it on their website-it looks the mutts

 Nice one Mr Bon,

Looks like I might have to invest at some point......problem is I fancy the GruppeM, my friend has just fitted one so I will see what it is like. Another friend is fitting a BMCCDA to his EVO so I will see what that is like to

Then I can make a decision
