At 05:00 this morning, My 1994 E34 3.8 M5 was stolen from the Lucan area of Dublin any help in it's recovery appreciated
It's an English registered car
Reg: L537 VLO
Metallic Black

Being as they took the time and trouble to remove a double glazed window unit, get past the house alarm find the keys (and the wifes handbag) the Police here don't think we're dealing with joy riders - small mercy as it might not be wrapped around a tree or a smouldering heap as is the norm here.
Shame trackers don't cover the whole of Ireland or we'd have it back already! Local boys think it will be on it's way to either Northern Ireland or back to the UK within 48hrs so fingers crossed!!
If anyone hears of anyone offering bargain M5s let me know!

Sorry to hear about the loss - as you say it sounds like the work of professionals who wouldn't have taken kindly to being disturbed in their work.
Did they get around the OBC code - or was it not in use ?

OBC code had been spotty of late so wasn't in use.
Good news is that we have recovered the car intact and unbent, bad news engine V sick.
Awaiting insurance company to ship it back to M/L for TLC.
Don't know that I want to go through this again so will have to make some decisions while car is being brought back to former glory. Can't bear the thought of ending up with a rep mobile that no-one wants to steal, any suggestions?

Glad you have it back and all ok apart from the Engine :-(, where was it recovered ? Even "rep-mobiles" get stolen, it's one of those risks that we all face. Just try and remember the joy it provides you when you are driving it and look forward to getting it back.

Put electrodes in the seats. If it gets stolen the bast*rds get the electric chair treatment

Glad to hear you got the M5 back - now the hassle of insurance claims..
Might be worth considering de-badging it? Mine was factory debadged and I like it that way. IMHO the M5 badges are too attractive to hot car thieving envious scum, especially if like me you live in a city with lots of them..

simply a well hidden toggle switch that broke the electrical supply to either the fuel pump or starter motor circuit. same as you they broke into the house got the keys and immobiliser thing while the owner was in bed, but ran off empty handed as the car would not start, as the switch was off and they probably didnt expect a diy security system. probably not thatcham approved but more effective in this instance !

Firstly, condolences re the M5. Hope the damage isnt terminal.
that 'kill switch' sounds like a great idea. only problem is that i,m about a mechanical as a doormouse, do you think that a garage would be willing to set something up like that? Bexely for instance?
any advice greatly appreciated, as am taking delivery of my first MPOWER car this weekend, and dont want any thieving gits having fun with my M3.

I'd be a bit nervous of letting any "auto electrician" fit a kill switch to such a high powered car. Not that they are incompetent, but could pass details of switch location to anyone. Get a reputable garage to do the job, someone you can trust. Glad you got the car back, did you have Tracker?

Have just found out about another tracker system that calls your mobile and can be tracked via internet which is claiming coverage anywhere a mobile phone works???? Will find out more and let you know.
I'd much rather catch them myself........ a lot of angst & frustration I need to unload!!

a lot of gagages will call in an auto electrician (more specialised) when they get stuck, cant see how this device is dangerous as whatever alarm system or immobilser does exactly the same thing. also look at motorsport cars, they require a method of stopping the engine in the event of an accident . as for passing on information of switch, get them to fit it at a friends house or somewhere the car does not live.i would imagine if all auto electricians customers cars dissapeared after they had worked on them somebody might ask questions....i am not an auto electrician
