If you want to know if there is a restriction in the box, or whether you want to fit a cone filter, do as I suggested to Peter - Remove the airbox completely and test drive it, then refit it and test again, its the simplest way to see for yourself.

Butt dyno is the best way as if it does feel faster then it must be more powerful. Its said that it must be around 5-10bhp extra to tell the difference with the butt dyno.

Ah the butt dyno. Much better than a rolling road in my opinion.
I will take my airbox off tonight before I leave work and I will let you know if the butt dyno detects any difference

peter, get yer hands in yer pockets and splash out on the m50 manifold & throttle body from alpina 527. this is cheap power for a modest outlay £120 for the throttle body £ £180 for the manifold conversion.

Barf, I would love to but money is sooooo tight at the moment. There a few other more important jobs that I need to get sorted first anyway so It won't be until next year. However if I get a new job soon............
The car needs something to give it a bit of a boost at high revs. It really starts to feel breathless after 5000rpm and there is no point going further than 5500 rpm.

Well I have just tried the car without the airbox and the results were good. It didn't feel like there was much of a power increase but the engine did rev much better and It felt happy being taken to 6.5K. Odley enough in only made a difference in 3rd 4th and 5th. In first and second it still felt breathless after 5.5K? don't know why this is. Might have something to do with the air temp under the bonnet at lower speeds being higher. However once I got up to a decent speed it felt totally natural holding each gear up to 6.5K. The noise is very satisfying too.
