There is mention in the latest club mag about the old BMW Drivers Club track day at Combe being run by the Car Club in June.
Now, this was an absolutely superb event which combined a general BMW club meet with some serious track action. At £55 for the day (4 sessions) it was far removed from the usual overly serious £150 'Better Driving Day' which is why it was so good.
I can only remember two accidents in 4 years and the marshalls are far more relaxed than the Rockingham Nazis.
I hope the Car Club does run this event again in the spirit that Graham Arnold intended and also for £55 which makes it very accessible and a very good day out. Charging £150 would just kill it.
Outbraking an E36 M3 into quarry in a B plate 518 is something to savour! (I'd never take any of my decent decent cars out on the track - EvoSport/CSL/840Ci for example!

Please guys, lets have another great Castle Combe!

Yeah, have to agree, Combe is a good all-round day out. Plenty of stalls, cars and track action! Also has the show 'n' shine bit.

If the car club take it over, will the stupid tyre rule mean that people will miss out this time??

I don't know about the tyre rule (what is it?) but I'd hate to see Combe turn into the usual thing (racing boots, mega bucks cars and all that pit lane posing).
Every year Jason from FAB (who is pretty wealthy) brings a scrapper on the back of a truck, rags the **** off it and provides spectators with a laugh. I did it at Rockingham in a dreadful green 4 door 316 and I can guarantee I have more fun than any of the serious guys! It's the chance to let off steam on the track without worrying about clobbering a new CSL.
Some of the drifting by the Paddies is just superb to watch - such skill and car control.

Andy

Right again! The show put on by some drivers on the final corner (before start/finish straight) is well worth watching!

Do a search on "Sticky Tyres"...

the drivers club track day won't be happening this year , as following the death of the chairman graham arnold , the drivers club has finished , the donington show in october is still on but it will be organised and run by total bmw .

That is a shame, I think he was the guy who ran the event each year? He was always very friendly and welcoming to all.

I have checked with the office and the Car Club will not be doing the Castle Combe Track day. The calendar is very busy so no room to fit it in. It will be looked at again for next year.
