- you may not want a maintenance free battery in your '6' (or any older BMW come to that). They require a slightly different charging voltage from standard lead acid. Some cars (with highish voltage regulation, say 14.5V at high engine speed) may be just about OK, but if your voltage regulator is set nearer 13.8V (and many are), then a maintenance free battery (eg 'calcium') may never achieve full charge. This leads to battery flattening in a few days via the alarm/immobiliser, which is usually blamed (quite unfairly in some cases), and much frustration..... For more details see; http://home.att.net/~ebaines/digest.htm#Maintenance%20Free%20Battery I hope this helps cheers

The owner's instruction book says it should be rated at least 66Amp/h.
Bosch or Halfords "Calcium" batteries are fine. My Six has had a Bosch for the last 4 years, and have fitted Halfords Calcium in my sister's Golf 3... |

My 6 is sat out on the driveway with the battery it came with..a new Varta. Only problem is that it hasn't got enough oomph to start a Mini, let alone my 6...its seriously tiny in comparison to the battery tray...
Which battery should the car have, please? |
