£9K will buy you a tidy 2.3 Evo II, Cecotto or maybe a Ravaglia (UK Model & if you can find one!).  Depending on mileage of the car go through the service history with a fine tooth comb as these cars are far from cheap to put right should anything be wrong with the car.  Check to see if the cam chain and tensioners etc. has been changed aand slightly higher mileage cars as this will cost about £1,500 to do if it needs doing at a later date.

£9k shold buy you a good car but don't buy the first one you see unless it is 100% ok as there is quite a lot of E30 M3's for sale if you look in the right place.

Andy.

There's another board I visit where a guy called Jim Bo was looking to sell his Evo II http://www.bmwcarmagazine.com/forum/

I haven't seen the car but by all accounts of those who have, it's a clean example which has only done 49,000 miles.

Good luck looking 'cos there's loads of rubbish out there and you'll need plenty of patience.

Whatever you end up buying, Mike, look at several - you'll soon get a feel for the good ones versus the bad ones.

Mike,

I've seen James' M3 and it is good. Brilliant condition. It's an Evo2, meaning they only made 500 of them, and it's fast. It only has 49,000 miles which means you don't have to worry about the timing chain for another 50K miles.

I would make James an offer. I think that it would fit your 9K budget perfectly. He is an enthusiast, and he's only selling it  to but into his company. Genuine enthusiast owned E30 M3s are the exception on the market, but his is one. It will be a shame for him to sell it, but I bet he'll still attend meets and use the message boards whilst he's waiting for money to get another one.

Cheers,

John.
