130mm, if you get some for the front make sure the have a flange shaped like the picture. I bought some with just
"taps" coming of each corner.(red) This will still fit, but will not proper seal the speaker compartment.(blue zone lets air pass, bad sound!)You can use 160mm for the rears if you use a spacer ring (MDF) to "lift" the speaker a little from the parcel shelf. Not cutting required.

Chris

Ive got Focal components in mine. 130mm in the front and 160mm in the rear (or 5 inch and 6 inch respectively, for those of you who deal in old money!)

The rears fit in a treat with no need for spacers. The fronts are a bit more tricky, if you dont want to cut the kick-panels.

Hope this helps?

Mark.

I just have front footwell speakers in my E30 Evo2 and want to upgrade.

I will put in some tweeters behind the side mirrors. I had some on a previous M3, but are they as good as some I could get from a car audio specialist? What are good as an upgrade to the footwell speakers?

I also want to put some speakers in the back. I have been advised to get 6X9 put in the rear shelf. That would mean cutting the shelf wouldn't it. Is this necessary for a big improvement?

Cheers

Kevin

Kevin

As with most things in life, you get what you pay for.

I went for the Focal components because I wanted sound quality over volume. As it turns out, they are loud enough even without an amp!

The front set are Focal Access 150, and they cost £120.00. The rears are Focal Polyflex 160 (which have now been replaced by the Access range), and they were £170.00.

It really depends on how much you want to spend, and whether you want quality or volume.

It would be advisable to speak to an in-car specialist, as they tend to know their stuff.

Personally I would steer clear of 6x9's. They are a bit of aggro to fit in the back of E30's, and dont think the sound reproduction is as good as 6 inch drivers.

Feel free to pm me if you want to know more, or if are in my neck of the woods then you can have a listen.

HTH

Regards
Mark.
