106 Rallyes are devilishly agile, they only need brakes for traffic lights ;) Can you fit an MI-16 engine in? They'll howl like a good 'un.

I wouldnt have been able to keep up even if I had wanted too !

No alloy wheels, no go-faster stripes, no bodykit, but god did it go !!

actually before i saw the light & bought my first bmw (7years ago), i had a cossie & did the same thing to a standardish looking corsa...big mistake he blew me away, when i finally caught up with him @ a petrol station he showed me that it was a calibra turbo engine with 300+bhp. IN A CORSA.

ive learnt my lesson now.

300 bhp Corsa ... LOL! nutter!

The turbotechnics 205s would churn out 280 bhp or more, they were fun.

I know of a 250bhp corsa. Forget wheel spin in third it gets wheelspin in fourth in the dry and 5th in the wet. The owner now has no front tyres and no driving license idiot. My mechanic has placed the car in storage in my fathers barn where he now pays us rent untill he gets his license back.

I was undertook on the m67 yesterday by some ***** in a saxo vts with 4 tailpipes sticking out the back. He must have been going flat out as He came from nowhere. He then weaved to the inside lane and flew across to the fast lane nearly taking a rover with him. I've never seen an idiot like him in all my time on the road. What makes me laugh is that he can park up next to a granny doing her shopping in basically the same car. Plus I would not like to be in an accident in a saxo/nova/corsa etc.. Don't get me wrong, I don't always stick to the speed limits, but there is a time and a place. That idiot will end up killing himself or some innocent party.

As for the picture at the top of this thread "You can't polish a ****"

I notice in your post a comment that crops up time and time again in accident reports,

" he came from nowhere "

It ranks alongside

"suddenly"

When looked at by accident investigators it usually turns out to mean " I wasnt paying as much attention as I thought I was "

This isnt a critism of you, or your driving, just an observation.

Best Wishes

Nigel

Nigel, this is one of the things that they told us in defensive driving. The key to good driving is observation. I have to say however that sometimes concentration slips and things can be missed, especially when the roads are busy and you are plodding along. Also it is not always possible to anticipate what someone is going to do especially if they are going very fast. I remeber one time on the A1 driving at about 80 in the left hand lane came up behing a wagon. The road was almost empty so I checked my rear view mirror and prepared to overtake. There was nothing behind me except a couple of bikes in the distance about 1/2 a mile back. So I pulled out. Next thing I know the bikes were right up behind me and the riders were making some well known hand gestures at me. I don't know how fast they were going but the speed they closed in me when I was doing 80 led me to think they were doing 140+.

Peter

I lose concentration too sometimes.

It was just a general comment, and one that has been hammered home to me by the IAM & the Police. ( As something NEVER to say after an accident).

As for your situation, thats a drivers nightmare, I actually hold a bike licence, although I havent ridden for a few years.

I knocked one of his bike about 10 years ago, different circumstances from yours, but his idiotic use of speed and road positioning was to blame.

He came around an overgrown traffic island like barrie sheen, his knee on the floor, both him and his bike hidden from my view by the overgrown vegetation, and of course I was hidden from him .

I was driving a normally asperated diesel astra estate, he hit the back wheel on my drivers side, the front of my car was near the center of this very wide island, his speed was such that he couldnt "steer" around the rear of the car.

The police dealt with him !! but at least he survived to be dealt with.

He wasnt badly hurt, but boy did he bounce, again and again.

Best Wishes

Nigel

Nigel, when I say this guy came from nowhere, he was not in my mirrors a few seconds before, and the fact that he undertook me I can only assume he was weaving thru the traffic moments earlier as after he passed me he was weaving thru motorway traffic at a minimum 0f 95 to 100mph. No disrespect intended but I'm a self employed engineer who does between 350 to 600 miles a week and have not had an accident where I was to blame for over 14 years.

You cannot anticipate some idiot who is not in view and driving wrecklessly. After he passed me he went on to a slip road to undertake again, then swung back right across to the outside lane nearly side swiping a rover. I suppose the rover driver would say he "suddenly" shot in front of me. Observation and anticipation are keys to safe driving, this idiot gives drivers no chance to use regular skills and that leaves reflexes, which does not guarantee a 100% safe reaction.

It is not normal for people to drive like this on a busy motorway and as I said I've not seen driving like it, ever!

We are both self employed engineers doing the same sort of mileage then.

I'm industrial electronics, what type are you ?

I saw an example today, on the M42, on my way back from Grimsby, not as bad as yours, but a taxi driver, weaving in and out, all three lanes, and on one occasion the hard shoulder.

Its something I'm seeing more and more of, as the authorities pull the traffic patrols off , and put the cameras on, its getting worse and worse.

It looks like they may be putting specs up on the M42 around Birmingham, but I'll advise as and when they do, only the specs type poles so far.

Best Wishes

Nigel

I drive the M4 daily and i can say it gets rough some days..

People who you suspect are half asleep trying to drive into the side of your car at 80 makes you kinda aware ..

Not surprising the number of accidents there are.. around junction 13
