Hi guys!

 

Just popped over from the CGTI forum thats the main bulk of this trackdays participants.

 

Just wanted to say 'Hi' and ask what kind of cars you guys are gonna be blasting about in? What specs have ya got.. lets hear them!

 

Mines a 1990 3 door Golf.

2.0 16v engine producing about 170bhp

Sachs fast road clutch and Lightened and balanced flywheel

280mm Corrado G60 brake setup with ATE disks, Pagid pads and ATE super blue racing fluid.

15" Compomotive MO's with some very nice tyres...

Spax RSX Coilovers

Eibach anti roll bars

The E30 M3 below.

No mods to the engine, Pagid front discs and pads and ACS suspension.

The current forecast is snow and rain which could make life interesting , but it is only a forecast.

Well that was an interesting day, good to see six E30 M3's keeping to the black stuff.

Unlike the assorted Golfs that seemed keen to explore a new form of panel beating. The antics of some drivers was a surprise, and not a pleasant one. I thought I had mistakenly joined a race the way some were passing me on the right into the hairpin!!!!  

Hope those in the R32 were ok, just a shame that brought events to an early close.

Shame some of the Golf drivers where driving like they where.

Some of the lads out there seemed to have apoint to prove.. and thats really not what it's about.

There are a good group of Golf drivers that attend many track days, and always drive cutiously (sp?) and safley.. i class myself as one of these. Always waiting to be indicated past, and basically using good track etiquette.

Please don't tar us all with the same brush.

Nice to see some really tidy M3's about on the day.. hope to see you guys again some time.

Sorry I wasn't trying to tar everybody with the same brush. I clearly remember you as one who thanked me for moving aside. the "LET" bit of your plate helped me remember.

As always it was the few, who as you correctly say "have a point to prove" that make it a less enjoyable experience. It would have been nice to have seen the on-track exploits mointored and controlled proactively.

Anyway on the whole it was a good day.

  So Kevin, BMW Club Performance Better Driving days, are more relaxing being with responsable drivers, who really care about their cars.Shame they didnt have a Clerk of the Course, who knows what the Black flag is for . GoodBY. You will be looked after at Rockingham.

John, It was quite a contrast. I was certainly more stressed yesterday, even more than I was when I first took my beloved M5 onto the track at Hethel almost a year ago.

I'm looking forward to Rockingham and would encourage anybody who hasn't taken their pride and joy onto the track to join in, even for half a day. I had heard all the stories about other track days which put me off for almost four years. The Car Club days are very well controlled but in a very subtle way that was missing at Mallory.

i had no hassle from anybody , mind you i was in a diffrant group to you kevin , the trouble started after launch when they went open pit lane , allways a bad time on any trackday every body wanting to get back on track , one thing i must point out that all the cars that went off where on road tyres not on stickies .
the first session was a bit hairy with ice still on the track at shaw's hairpin , spun it but on damage , cound'nt catch the front wheel drive cars , but when it dried out i was a different story , very fast circuit , managed to get 115 exiting the long right hander , i have a few pics to post , only static no action pics , it was to cold to stand   in the pit lane .

Hi,

I was in the blue Ibiza being the mobile chicane, juast like to say I was a bit concerned at when I heard that BMW's were being allowed, based on some of the toal d**kheads that mostly drive them.

In actual fact you lot were well behaved which was surprisingly good

nose to tail formation through shaws was fun but that became unfunny when some felt it nessacary to dive past under braking

good day was had tho

Must say cracking day for the money. Very fast track and not too difficult to learn.

As Grant said it was a bit disappointing when it became open pit and due to a few, lets say, more eager drivers having minor indesgretions I didnt get out until 2pm (waiting for 45mins).

Nice meeting fellow M3 owners and cant wait to do it again.

Sorry you won't be at Rockingham but hopefully you can make Croft (5 July)?

Had a cracking day at Mallory Park and had a lot of fun during the second "Intermediate" session with you lot in the M3's!

I was still getting to grips with the car and the track at that point (still had the traction control on which doesn't help really). Tried going around Gerards the same speed as a black M3 and the traction control (or more than likely it was me) did something very odd which I think worried my girlfriend in the passenger seat a little  I held off a little that session after that! Wierd because towards the end of the day I was going a lot faster with no problems, maybe more grip in the afternoon.

Stuck with one of you guys in a red M3 for the rest of the second session, a lot of fun!  Cheers for all of you M3 drivers who were very courtious, sorry I didn't say thank you all of the time when I was let past. Didn't want to take my hand from the steering wheel at those speeds heading towards a corner!

The last session was my best as far as my driving was concerned but there were some people out there who I wish hadn't bothered... I was overtaken by a white Mk1 Golf on the inside in the braking zone for the hairpin!! To make it worst I was being held up by someone who wouldnt move over to let me past and there was no room for the guy who overtook me to squeeze in! Fool! I showed my anger with my horn. Other than that it was a good day. It was a shame it ended early but luckily everyone was ok. Poor R32 owner.
