Topic: buying a 328i coupe - Advice? Posted: 04-February-2004 at 11:51 |
Hi Guys Am new to the forum and am considering BMW ownership. I'm interested in an E36 328i sport - lovely looking car, FSH etc. The only worrying point is that it is very high mileage. It's on a P-plate but has down 150,000 - should this put me off? I've heard that BMWs are very reliable machines but don't want to buy what seems to be a bargain to find it dishing big bills over me in the near future! Also (sorry for more questions!) - any impressions on how I should expect these cars to drive/ownership costs etc would be REALLY appeciated. I'm changing from a Toyota Celica GT4 (ST205) which is fast as...but I'm looking for something classier and I've always loved BMW straight sixes.
Any advice/opinions? Persuade me over to the BMW side! Thanks in advance. |

Do a search for Nikasil!
Check out this link in the FAQ's Nikasil issue Check to see if it's had a new engine, if so then don't worry about the 150K! |

I've got a 328i coupe. Running wise :
I get ~30mpg (mixed urban / m'way, long / short journeys) Got 235/40/17 tyres @ £120 a pop. Last ~12k miles at rear and slightly longer at the front. Just got a new clutch @ 74k miles - £330 fitted Needs new brakes all round @ 77k miles - £360 fitted Just had 2nd Insp II service (i.e. the dearest) - £295 Oil service was <£100 Insp I was ~£140 IIRC (all servicing so far has been main dealer) Car goes quick Sounds great Built well May take a while to get into driving it as fast as you drove the Celica... took me about a year to fully adjust from a FWD to the RWD. Just don't pay too much for the car as 328i seem to be deprciating rather a lot at the mo HTH Duncan |
