    Posted: 04-November-2014 at 18:58
On leaving after the great Scottish section AGM at Eastern BMW Edinburgh I spotted the display of rubber floor mats in the showroom, they had what I wanted and I would have purchased them there and then but since I am a club member I asked if I could have the !0% discount. The friendly lady said she couldn't process the discount because it had to be  the parts department (which are naturally closed on a Sunday).
I decided to drop in to John Clarks in Dundee who supplied my car to me 5 months ago and firstly they did not have the mats in stock (next day delivery) they wanted £2.00 more than Eastern, and most important they DID NOT RECOGNISE THE CLUB DISCOUNT!!!. needless to say I walked away.
I have now sourced them through a member of staff (friend) and got a discount.
Is this happening elsewhere and is it Just Eastern who are honest and decent with club.

George , Many years ago when I bought my 1st B.M.W (a 320i in Artic White )
My water pump failed . Took it to my local dealer Menzies in Stirling.
Car all fixed a few days later ...... went to pick it up ......
Upon arrival I met the then "Service Manager " Frank who looked like Captain Peacock from the T.V program "Are You Being Served".
"Your car is ready sir ...& here is your bill"
To which I said " I'm a B.M.W.C.C.G.B member ...would I be able to get 10% discount off the parts ?"
Well you would have thought I had asked him for a kidney !!!!!
"Under NO circumstances do we give discount "
To which I said "Well Frank ......make the most of this £xxx as I will not be back " ....To which he simply gave a "Shrug" of his shoulders !!!!
I am happy to say that Frank is no longer there ( retired I think ???) & I now receive my discount on each visit.
But it just shows you how one visit & the attitude of the staff can put you off a dealership for good

I've had discounts (10%) from Menzies and Eastern without any argument.
Also used to get discount at Kirkcaldy, when it was Morrisons and Phoenix

What is this with "club discount"?

I've not been a member of any official BMW club for years but I've always got a discount on parts

You just need to build up a rappore with the dealer

Just bought a new car from that same dealer, they should be keen to start the rapport with me rather than the other way round!

George, I did manage to get 10% off spares from Alan at John Clark Dundee but only when I told him we get it from Eastern and because I do have a rapport(correct spelling as it is with a "t" not an "e") with him. Although, got to say, he wasn't too keen initially.

Spoke to mate who got me the mats and the bike side of the club has a discount in place but nothing with the car club. Their loss! We mentioned the eastern discount but Graham (parts manager) was not interested. Alan was not around at the time sadly.

Agree

I've got to know the guys at Fairbairns and they always say hello and ask after the car as they know it is as common as rocking horse poo.

I've probably already saved more £££s from Fairbairns than the cost of the BMWcc membership fee.

It's most definitely, "rapport", not, "rappore". Well, it is if you want it to be correct.

Rapport n. a close and harmonious relationship.

No entry in the Oxford Dictionary for rappore.

Don't blame me.

Omg talk about going off topic! You guys should know better!

Sorry about that George....back on topic.....
Car club discount is not compulsory with a dealer. It's really up to us to build up a relationship with our local dealers, who are a franchise of BMW and hopefully if we work with them they will work with us. As already mentioned we have worked with Eastern Edinburgh and HF Irvine. They all have the capacity to offer discount but also have the right not too. Hope that helps.

Ps if you ever want anything again let me know and I will pick it up at Eastern for you!
