After reading many reviews on running winter tyres I have fitted them to my touring.
Had the original alloys that needed new tyres and my bbs style 5 s weren't liking the salt. Anyway I could not recommend winter tyres enough, so far the car has remained sure footed in the light snow and ice. Looking forward to a good dump of snow to really test them out. Anyone else swapping to winters ? Most European countries recommend changing, especially the insurance companies |

Quite a few on here use them i think.
I've been using them on my 328 for two years. Bought them part worn on a set of 17" Motorsport reps and can't speak highly enough of them. They totally transformed the car in the snow. I just use two on the back. When I bought four new conti sport 3s the fronts that came off still had loads of tread left so I shoved them on my winter alloys and run them on the front. I went out to put mine on last night but one of the winters was worn further than I remembered so I'm waiting for a call back from my pal who has an Autocentre to see what prices he's dug up. Front discs & pads and road tax this month as well. Merry Xmas indeed. |

changed over at the weekend, my first exp of winter tyres and on first impressions I'm very happy. Car feels so planted compared to before where it was sliding and wheel spinning at the lightest touch of the throttle |

Plumped for a pair of Avon ice touring ST's at £93 a corner.
Not top of the range but not reformed malasyian condoms either.
Will report findings when fitted.

I love my winter tyres! Im on my second year with them. Car feels great on the ice and rain. Waiting patiently on a good load of snow coming to try them out in that. (not much snow last winter!)
Get way better MPG as well with them on so all good!!! I would recommend!! |

I just put a pair of new Pirelli P7 tyres of the front of my wifes Focus after just replacing the front brakes. These are bog standard 'all weather tyres' and the change in grip is noticeable. We've just had 2-3 inches of snow and the car was fine. Even the wife noticed the improvement in road holding!
Didn't have any issues in my car with silly tyres in the snow and ice. I would need new rims to get winter tyres for my car at £££ plus four tyres more ££££ =££££s Relating to the above post......So instead of spending nearly half the value of the car in rims and tyres that I'll get 3 months use out of, I'll just obey two simple rules of driving in snow, rather than retire as old Cambell says #1 Don't drive anywhere beyond my ability as a driver. #2 Don't drive anywhere beyond the ability of my car. If that means not going out, then I am happy with that. And I can work from home. Or retire as Cambell said Although I did think long and hard about buying those second hand E60 rims that Ian put up for sale.....ahem.....It's always there at the back of my mind, do I fork out for them.....if I ever trade my car for an F10 would E60 wheels still fit if I bought 'winter' E60 tyres for a F10...... Where do I store them, I've got enough cr@p in the garage that I need to move out if I ever need to work on a car. That inevitable takes longer to do that work on the car in the first place. Mibbies if I had a newer car that I was going to keep for longer......... Edited by Andrew Rolland - 07-December-2012 at 14:19 |

Ians rims would be a great solution unfortunately they wouldn't fit over my discs let alone brake calipers. Ah, the joys

Have you tried them for fit Cambell, just to make sure?
The only reason I ask is that Ians rims are the ones I had on my first E60 (17") which as per current car has brake discs that are only ~25 mm smaller than your discs. If they don't fit it can't be by much. Hmm mine has 18" rims are looking at a picture of my wheel and brake disc, there might not be enough room right enough......

Been out and had a look at mines. There can't have been much clearance between the caliper and the inside of the 17" rim on my first E60.
Yeah they'll no fit your car Cambell, will they. The joys indeed.
