Had a bit of work done on my new ride (E61 520d) and after taking the pollen filter housing off we found this:



pretty good seal of that grommet methinks, imagine this amount of water running down the harness right into the ECU.
E61 520d, slow and buzzy but my wallet likes the mpg.....

I thought you were going to mention sunroof drain holes.  I read somone had an E61 with a sunroof which the drain holes blocked up on and this was only discovered when his electrics shorted when the internal box sections of the chassis/body structure filled up with water.  Big bills to fix.  Poor chap was told to F off by BMW as they argued he should have kept them clean.
Be exclusive and drive a Petrol 5 Series!

Its also have been a problem on E39 ,drainhole gets full of leavs and other stuff, the water gets in the brake power unit, and on wintertime it freeze and its not pozzible to pusch the brakepadal at all. The engine could also suck in water from the brake power unit and its not good at all.
 
So its good to take a look inside at least once a year.
