looking to buy another car.

Seller has listed a 320d as "imported vehicle".

What kind of trouble do I get with this? Insurance ripping me off?

It's a RHD car.

Depends on where it's imported from.
Many cars from the likes of Japanland could be Jap MoT failures (which I gather is quite tough). Quite often the history gets lost along the voyage. It could also be a simple grey import.
My 525i is a Jap import and I managed to get a full history from BMW (which also confirmed the mileage) for her so you can be lucky.

I should also have added, with Jap imports, many cars require different parts that their European equivalents. However, with BMWs, parts tend to be the same as European cars (although with mine, the mpg calculations are based (as you may remember) on US conversions which are misleading).

A lot of imports to the UK were personal imports from Belgium, etc. back in the very early noughties when car prices were considerably higher in the UK than the pre-tax price in some European countries.  The main thing to watch for are trim and option level difference, e.g. there may not have been an official SE spec in some countries so you should check that all of the kit associated with a UK spec SE is present.  Sometimes people ordering overlooked some of the less visible options (e.g. auto dimming rear view mirror).

If its more recent than that then it could a factory collection.  I'm not sure if there is still an advantage for British Forces posted overseas but that also used to give rise to a good few imports in the UK too.

As long as the paperwork is in order and the spec looks like it matches a UK car then I wouldn't be put off.  The UK trade seem to mark them down on price over a UK car so make sure you don't overpay for it.

Now: BMW 523i SE '00, 318i SE - e91 '07, 325i Coupe '93.

Prev:
e46 328i SE Touring, 330Ci, 318Ci.
e39 523i SE.
e36 325i Coupe *2, 323i SE, 316iSE.
e30 325iSE 2dr, 320i Conv, 320i 2dr, 316i.
