what diffs fit a 528i manual are they the same as an auto are estates the same as a salloon etc whats the best ratio 2 go for

Autos and manuals have different diff ratios due to differing output speeds of the manual and autoboxes for the same road speed.
 
Quick look on realoem implies that there is a number of differrent ratios available depending on transmissions and options etc.
 
To avoid any nasties upsetting the ASC/ABS system you would need to get the correct ratio i.e. the one fitted from new.  A BMW dealer with your chassis number would be able to tell you what ratio you need.
Be exclusive and drive a Petrol 5 Series!
