Hi, ive just recently bought my present BM, it's a 1999 E39 528i Sport & i'm looking to get a spare key, what's my best option for this?

option 1:
do i buy a used key with internals & a blank blade on ebay so i can have the key cut & then place the buttons & internals from a used key in to the new key & then have this coded to my car?

option 2:
do i just go to BMW and let them do it all via the chassis No

my only draw back with option 1 is Ermm who do i get to recode a used key?

thanks Tongue

The only key that have the right immo/transponder who you can start your car with, you need to get from BMW dealer. There is 11 keys made to your car. You only need to inilize the remotefunction at the same time as the other key. Ebay keys dont start the car only possible to get the remotefunction.

Note: there is possible to reprogram a key but the program fore it you kan find in Kina and its not cheap.

Hmmmm 99, not sure, are you ews2 or ews3 ?

It is very easy to make the fob open and close the car, your issue will be around the security module.

This is a white "box", slightly bigger than a fag packet, and is located behind the "cubby hole" by your right knee, it will share a BMW and Rover part number.

If ews2, then someone with the autologic software should be able to handle it, if ews3, then I'm told it's dealer only.
Best Wishes
