I was quoted for a head gasket replacement on an M54 3.0 engine in an E39 and it was going to be a minimum of £600 from a BMW speciallist about 4 years ago. Not a cheap job.

Also if the cars overheated at any point then the engine may well be junk.

So is the head gasket covered under a warranty?

£110 is not enough to do a head gasket on an M54 engine.

Be careful with a head gasket repair on an m54.  Getting a good seal can be difficult because of the alloy block and potentially warped head.  Also, it is incredibly easy to strip the threads when bolting the head on.  If that happens then the engine is more or less junk.

£1100 sounds more like it.

Yes they are a pain and unless your cash is 100% commited to you may still be better off going for a replacement engine.

FAB direct etc could help...
