Hi, I blimped the throttle today and the car cut out, started straight away, no drama, later on I was asked to rev the engine by my brother in law which I did though not above 4000rpm and only twice, I switched of the engine immediately afterwards, I returned to the car some minutes later and it wouldnt start? Turned over for around 10 seconds nothing, did this about 5 times and at last it fired, drove home stopped it tried it and it started? I remember having something similar with my Impreza turbo and it was a simple MAF fault, does that sound likely? No warning lights been running fine all day, always fires 1st click?

Nb.

I have recently stared running it on super.

Going on what you said in another post have you got this sorted?

Mine won't rev past 5,000 rpm when in P and giving it some beans on the driveway.  I'm guessing it's a limiter put in to protect the engine from overheating as there is limited airflow or to protect the autobox.

Running it on super shouldn't cause anything other than improved fuel economy.  I doubt that you would notice any increase in bhp as it will be so marginal over your already high bhp figure (286?)

I had a diagnostics done next day all fuelling air etc spot on, did show
crank sensor fault and temp sensor fault but they cleared and has
been fine since, could it have been flooded as I turned it off after
revving? It's due a service n mot in sept and were off to Wales for a
week in her before that so if any more probs they can be sorted then, I
think I just worry to much sometimes, I'm used to jumping in my new
van everyday and not even thinking about how it behaves sounds etc.
Come to think of it my van has done this a couple of times when it
was less than a year old dealer found nothing and it never happened
again, forgot about that, no emotional attachment to the van though
lol!

Fuel pump starting to go?  Flaky hot starting was the first symptom when mine went.

No not at first - just occasional hot start failure.  Then later it started to hesitate under acceleration, then that got worse and more frequent until it wouldn't rev, only idle (which it did nice and smoothly!).  In the end I diagnosed it with a cheap pressure gauge off ebay.  Not sure if there would have been a fault code because I didn't check that, and it was an E34 anyway, so the first question is, is there a code for poor fuel pressure on the E39s?

A failing CPS could also do it tho, and you did say you had a code for that...
