Hello one and all. After finally having the cash to sort the brakes and running issues on my car (thank's to selling the wifes galaxy and a tax rebate!) I'm getting round to these in the next couple of weeks but on the way home last Friday I got the message "DOOR OPEN" and the 'BING' sound, also the interior lamp kept flicking on and off. I could see there was no gap or wind noise with any of the doors. When I got home, all doors were securely shut and I noticed there are no courtesy light switches?
I thought nothing of it and it hadn't happened any more until Tuesday when I got the same thing but again, no doors were open. Is the courtesy light switch on the door latch mechanism like some sort of microswitch perhaps? I can only think it's sticking or there is a loose connection. Any ideas? Mike Edited by 540 V8 |

I would say it is some form of door latch switch. I had to replace one on my Senator, can't remember why now but the Vauxhall dealership told me that it is also linked to the alarm and asked if I had any issues with the alarm, which I didn't. It was mounted obviously on the inside of the front part of the door frame making replacement easy other than being scared that I would drop the wires back into the cavity to be lost forever! Any issues with your alarm? Does the Haynes book of parodies provide any clues as to where the switches might be? I'm sorry but when I first read your post I thought you wrote

Mike, that will be just a door pin switch, which are in the door shuts either on the hinge side or built into the striker plate (can't remember on the E34's).

Lol, I even had to go back and read it just in case I did! Chance would be a fine thing! I have the equity and the car will be at work when me a my friendly mechanic do the work so I'l be out of earshot! No issues with the alarm, arms and disarms as usual. Cheers Sporty, I'll check again as at the first glace I couldn't see any pin switches put as you suggest they may not be in an obvious place. They are not on the door pillar as with most cars. I'll ahve another look tomorrow when I give her a wash and polish. Mike Edited by 540 V8 |

I'm guessing this is up inside the door lock mechanism as I can't picture in my head the position of that switch? What I would call the striker plate is on the b-pillar and is simply a metal plate with a pin that the lock latches around so I'm guessing the striker plate listed must be behind the door panelling.

Nice one sporty! After looking at the pics then looking again this
morning at the striker, i saw a little plastic detent sticking out which i previously thought was solid but now see it's spring loaded. I now know what i'm looking at. I couldn't see the wood for the trees. Many thanks, i'll use my eyes properly next time! |
