It needs a diagnostic check done on the system.  Most likely a duff wheel sensor.  Fairly common on the E39. 

They are about £60 from Eurocar parts and can be fitted yourself within 30 mins or so, once the fault has been diagnosed.

It's probably unrelated to the snow bump, as it is such a common E39 failure.

Be exclusive and drive a Petrol 5 Series!

hi guys, my friend has an e39 530d on a v plate. about 6 weeks ago he skidded in the snow and hit the kerb,drivers side front wheel took the brunt. all that happened at the time was he  bent the right wishbone. he got a new one and put it on had it tracked and balanced, and everything was fine up till this week.now when he gets in the car it starts fine , all the lights come on and go off as usual, but then after about 20 seconds the traction control light comes on, and the abs light comes on. the car drives normally. any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.
