AC Schnitzer Type III reps

Hello all.

I am new to the site, recently bought a 323i off my mate and I believe
the car use to belong to a member on here?

Anyway I have a question regarding the above wheels and if anyone
has had theirs refurbished and if so how sucessful was it?

I do have literally a couple just now but I'm on an iPhone just so a bit

The alloys can be refurbed,but you will need new rep bolts also and they will cost you around £100 alone and around £250 for alloys IIRC

 As above - By the time you have paid for new studs and had them re-furbed you are £380. Then paying for the tyres to be re-fitted bank on another £40 quid for that.

New ones are £400 quid....my advice....buy new ones.

I had mine done with satin black centres which was the only reason i paid to get them done as you can only buy silver.

If so, that was my car before, take good care of it!!

Saw you pass at the weekend, think it was Sunday on West Tullos Road.

Wheels were on my to do list but scotty wanted to buy the car before I got the planned jobs done, I had bought paint & laquer for them & was going to paint them including the lip, I think they would still look good even without the polished lip.

The problem with the replicas is the plastic studs, otherwise I would have had them powder coated before.

Yeah I bought it off Scotty but don't worry it's in good hands :-)

All the extras are nice touches and more importanly subtle and it is
very obvious the car has been looked after.

I was probably going to or from my folks house as they stay in Cove
and that's t where it goes to get cleaned on the weekends.

Spraying them is a good idea but I'm thinking for the price you are for
tyres on their own you're not that much more for a wheel / tyre
package as you'll know which seems to make more sense.

I sold an immaculate P1 to my mate before I bought my flat and he
doesn't look after it like I did which is disappointing to say the least so
I understand what it's like.

I think the back tyres won't be far away from being replaced? I
checked out bmautosport and they have some nice wheels!

Not 100% sure, check on www.bmwowner.com/forum loads of folk on there have refurbed dishes on BBS splits with varying methods. Some have even kept the wheels on the car (ie back ones) car jacked up, set the wheels turning, whilst rubbing them back with whatever! 

The polished lips would come up very good with not an awful lot of effort.

I had a go using the wet & dry paper at the weekend and that made a huge difference! So thanks for the advice.

Regarding the nuts, can these be removed from the wheel for painting?

Dave, as Neil says, I wouldn't try to remove them as they are splined & pressed in, & wouldn't come out without ruining them.

Glad you got on good with the wet & dry, you can see what I mean there then.

I was simply going to lay the wheel face up, you will see the stud actually has a small recess back from the face of the alloy, which would allow you to "pool" the paint in there, leaving a perfect finish.

Alternatively, if you are painting the spokes, paint the studs along with them anyway. Depends on what colour you want them.
