My '89 635 needs a new back box. I believe there was an exhaust specialist around Birmingham that made custom stainless systems. Does anyone know their name?

Hi Andy ,
Compliments of the season ! Like the new id . I got locked out, as I registered with an old email account which I no longer use The company you are looking for is MIJ Performance Exhausts . Ross used them to construct one for the Alpina. They are based in Walsall on 01922 645646. I had a conversation with Steve Richardson ( BOA ) he was making his own out of a superior metal . It might be worth having a word with him. Also Barney Classic Heroes spoke of a system he could supply . Munich now under new leadership may be able to help. I went to Power Engineering about 3 yrs ago and heard a Fritz system to my mind it was less restrivtive and was much free'er reving up. There was an increase in BHP but for the life of me I cannot remember what it was This is the Big Coupe thread http://bigcoupe.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2283&highligh t=rolling+road Hope this help Regards Rob |

Thanks Rob.
James S put me on to MIJ. Although there's a place just outside Newcastle they were asking £280 for a back box & £860 for the full system. When I spoke to MIJ their prices were £249/£549. A £300 saving was not to be sniffed at. The std BMW box alone was £700! So I battled snow storms, road works & traffic on Friday to drive down to Walsall. They gave me 10% discount for being a BMWCC member although there's a 2.5% surcharge for credit cards. It's probably cost me around £75 petrol so a pretty good result financially speaking. I went for the quiet system & it's no louder than the standard although there is a little more resonance when opening the throttle. This is a feature of s/s v mild steel but it's by no means intrusive. Probably won't notice it after a couple of weeks. I also went for the std size 55mm pipes. There were some very nice alternatives but they were all 3"/75mm & that would have meant cutting the rear valance slightly. I've just had it refurbished so I've stayed stock. MIJ put a slash cut on the tail pipes so they look good. I believe I can still get the black chrome covers but they're about £20 each! Maybe smooth black Hammerite? Now I just need to wash all the salt & muck off the Six! Some pics: |
