loose handbrake

   Hi all, it's been a while since I've been here, thought I'd get back into it with my first prob! 
I have a 95 E36. (that aint the prob!)  
The handbrake is loose! is this a normal thing? By loose I mean a side to side "wiggle" when off. It still works but am afraid that it may pull right off some day when parking... is this an easy fix? or do I need to go to the stealers?
