Just to let you know I've got my car running.

A big thank you to everyone who posted a reply, I appreciate your help.

I am sitting here happy but kicking myself. Why, oh why, do I not try the simple things first? You would think after years of tinkering with cars and engines I would know better. I ASSUMED because there was a spark that the problem was fuel, but after further investigation it turned out the leads and cap were not in particularly good condition. Gave all the connections a good clean and presto! started immediately. The leads are basically knackered as the insulation at the connections to the dizzy cap are cracked and are showing signs of arcing so a new set is required.

We have a saying at work: Assumption is the mother of all mistakes. And so it has proven to be again!

Once again, thanks for the help guys.

Cheers

Graham

If you already know this then give me a slap, but apparently the dizzy cap is the same one on a Volvo(not sure which model)
someone here might be able to tell you. It will be cheaper than what BMW would charge.

Glad to see everything is in working order, hope to see you at Perth on 11/01/04

Or go to s14.netSome one there will know what model and part No. to ask for.

Cheers guys,

Have ordered new cap, rotor and leads so will hopefully be running sweetly again.

Mono, had a look on ebay but reckoned that for about £15 more I can get new ones. Thanks anyway.

Graham
