02 520i

last 6-7 months the power on the driver side washer has gotten steadily worse and nonexistant now so cant give the windows a squirt to clean off.  Passenger side not so bad but behaviour of that is about 3-4 months behind the driver side one.

Tried cleaning with boiling water and thin copper wire pushed down as far it could go but no joy.  any ideas?  Is this a motor of some sort that can be replaced manually?

Sound more like a blockage than a faulty pump.  Can you hear the pump when you pull on the stalk?

The problem is most likely to be that the nozzles are clogged.  A trip to the dealer and a small number of quid's should get you the bits and the swapover is straightforward.  You may need to remove the sound deadening material from under the bonnet to get at them.

Sounds like the pump if it's being going bad for a while.

Try it without the washer pipes connected to test if its ok.
