Hi guys, I'm in the process of buying a 5 series (E39). I was just wondering if any of you could tell me what year of the 5 series they introduced the Angel Eyes (well that's what i call them anyway not sure of the correct term). The lights when on sidelights look like iris's! Hope I'm making atleast some sense. Thanks alot |

Hello and welcome to the forum.
I think the angel eyes are called halos. If I am correct they would have been available from about 1996, as the model before the E39, the E34 (which is the one I have) doesnt have enclosed headlights. There seems to be several different types of halo available, you quite often see them advertised on e-bay. |

Other question. I really, really like the 5 series and am so close to getting one. I'm only 25 and was wondering if you think the car will be a bit much for me? I've got a baby on the way i really want a nice practicle car. |

I don't think you are quite correct there nigel. Halo's were available after 99 when the car recieved a minor facelift. Zenon were available as an option from 1996 when the car was introduced. Many older e39's now have halo or angel eyes as it cost around £350 to do the conversion. Now you can just about get a kit to work on any BMW although the e39 kits use LED'd and are much better.
