Hello one and all, we have recently aquired a very nice '97 325i touring. The problem is, it usually takes about 5 secs of turning the starter before the engine fires. Is this normal? The service history shows that the car has only done 68,000 miles

Come on all you dedicated BM owners somebody must have some words of wisdom about the this starting thing. I can't beleive that such an otherwise nice car can be so embarassing to start when your showing off your pride and joy. I know 5secs isn't the end of the world but it seems like it when your turning the key. Its actually better now we are getting some chilly mornings. Help please.Confused

It does not sound normal, but I'm afraid I have no idea what would cause this.

You could try looking on different forums. I know you don't own a e30 but if you go to www.e30zone.co.uk someone there may be able to help you.  They seem to have a good techinical forum. Good luck

try changing the plugs , and cleaning out your airflow meter with carb and choke cleaner spray ,  made all the difference on mine.
