Meant to post this when I saw it two or three weeks ago, but I saw what looked like a fast back X5 (I never knew there was an X6 in the pipeline) on the Dual carriage way around Limerick heading south from the Tipperary junction.
I assume it was out of Keoghs - there were no plates on it. I was doing every bit of the limit and it left me like I was stopped (must've been doing 180k+). I only got a quick look at it, but I thought it didn't look great. That said, I'm not a 4wd fan! Has anyone else spotted it? |

I'm working in Stillorgan and despite the relative wealth in the area and the fact that two dealers are nearby, I still haven't seen one!

I saw one on the M1 in England the other day. Putting aside my personal hatred of all things 4x4 for a minute I still cannot understand why BMW has chose to introduce a 4x4 coupe. Given the increasing cost of fuel and the current wave of environmental awareness sweeping accorss the world I find it hard to imagine why any company would introduce a car that seems to be sticking two fingers up to the world. All the expense and running costs of a 4x4 with none of the space. For me it epitomises a vehicle that really is all about letting people know how much money you have. In fact in every other aspect other than the bling factor, it is a compromise.

I've seen a few.... -Grey one on Burlington Road yesterday (BMW Ireland Number Plate Surround) -Black one in Sandyford last week -Grey one in Blackrock about two weeks ago -Silver one in Wexford about a month ago I agree with Peter's points regarding thier usefulness, but I think they look great in a dark colour with the 20" wheels.

I came up behind one on the Tipperary road outside Limerick Motor Centre and it was registered, 08 LK and it was a deep red example, have to say i find the new X5 much more appealing!

While there obviously isn't any chance of it happening, I wish BMW would stop making X cars altogether.
My love of BMW stems back to a time when they were the choice of people who enjoyed driving; even their larger cars were "Drivers' Cars"; the "Ultimate Driving Machine". These days they're merely the Ultimate Status Symbol. Even with the serious discouragement from a fellow member (different thread), I may have to buy an Alfa Romeo next! |

I wasn't particularly impressed when I saw the concept so i said I'd wait till I saw one in the flesh before passing judgement. Well saw 2 in the flesh about 2 weeks ago and i'm still not sure..They wont be to everyone's liking. Although I read somewhere that the US Dealers have sold thier 2008 allocation, so someone must like them. |

One passed me today. It looks - to my eyes - utterly hideous. The rear of it look totally wonky. It's like a tonka truck I had a a child = regular sized body and huge wheels. I would much prefer an X5.

I agree with Peter - it's niche marketing gone mad. Pointless when the X5 is so damn good.

Killian, I think BMW would be insane to make the X7. Give it a couple of years and fuel may well be £5 a litre, never mind gallon. On top of this more and more people are turning against 4x4s. Like it or not more people belive in global warming than don't and this balance is only moving in one direction. Edited by Peter Fenwick |

Saw one on Aston Quay a couple of days back. Black 08D. Gotta say, sitting amongst the ordinary traffic it looked the dogs gonads. I'd have one in a flash if I didn't fancy the pants off the Q7.

Well bmw1066 you are entitled to your opinion and so is everyone else. Whether the product is commerically viable or not, doesn't preclude people from having a view on it.
Ivan, I detest the Q7, it's just a big, bland barge! The X5 is a well designed and detailed product. I do not think that the X7 would do very well, though I'm sure in the US it might. |

Driven the Q7 and it's a very nice place to be - although it feels like you're towing a trailer as the back end seems to roll over very suddenly when cornering at any pace. X5 it really only percieved as a posh kiddie runabout - from anybody I know. I have seen the X6 around Killaloe in Clare - a challenging look to say the least, I reckon we'll see a lot more of them on the road than 135i's.

we'll see more on them on the road than the 135i because the X6 is a more obvious status symbol; I'd rather have the 135i...

The 135i would be a laugh!
Little Car + Big Engine = They didn't have many nice things to say about the X6 on Top Gear last night. We have an old trooper here at the moment and it's great for towing and getting out of muddy fields. I also had a 2.6 petrol Pajero in Oz - wouldn't have seen half as much of the country if I didn't have it. But here... for the average road user... I just don't see the point. I suppose it's a case of whatever floats your boat! |

I had an opportunity to park my Touring next to an X6 in the Herbert Park underground; I didn't, afraid it would eat my E46!
In hindsight I should have and taken a picture, just to show the size difference (and both were Sapphire Black; would have made a good picture). |
